Of course he hasn't. He's done very little as a pro. The one notable name on his record is the decent Cordoba.

I consider his victory over Cordoba to be a better win than anyone Vazquez Jr or Mathebula have beaten.

i dont see why he should fight him. guys biggest win is like rico ramos. hes got amazing skills, but he got rocked 2-3 times in his last fight...which was only his 11th. he doesnt have much of a name, hes not that exciting. i understand why they arent taking the fight.

Rigo is a hungry lion who wants to jump on a big gun right away without sweat. Not as easy for winning only 11 fights. Bubba wont agree.

Rigo has great skills but he looked awful and stunk out the joint against Cordoba is was the best fighter he's faced yet. Rico Ramos was pretty much exposed by that Japanese guy before he exploded with the left hook to win his championship and Teon Kennedy and Marroquin are both fringe contenders at the very best.

I truly believe so, he already said that he would go for Gamboa at 130 and who is 100 times better than Rigo he said so we all know Rigo is not worse than Gamboa and Nonito is tryin to escape the talks about that potential and I would say natural fight. But Mayweather ducking Manny has been much worse.

Vazquez Jr had fought one fighter who could be considered world class and he lost. The other half decent fighters on his record like Bedak and Sonsona would still be a step back from Ramos, Rigo's second best win. Then you have Cordoba, which is a really good win, something Vazquez Jr doesn't have.

Rigo needs to earn his shot at Donaire. I would love to see it right now,but it really doesn't make sense right now. Rigo should face some top competition at the weight,

Now the fact no top competition will face him...different subject

Rigo should fight Mathebula and prove that he is better than Donaire by beating him in decisive fashion.

Then again, that would mean Rigo would be fighting a taller fighter with a longer reach, and considering who Rigo's fought, it's doubtful he takes this fight.

If Donaire doesn't want to fight him, nobody will force him.

Rigo isn't exactly in the driver's seat. Donaire is a more exciting, fan-friendly fighter. Unfortunately, Donaire's speed, power, and athleticism are well known, so fighters are hesitant to engage him which can make for boring fights, but still better than Rigo's. (although this is subjective)

Rigo is a defensive fighter and only a defensive fighter. See Cordoba for evidence of this. Instead of turning it up and going for the kill, he got knocked down by a jab and played prevent the rest of the fight, stinking the place out.

That's why I give Donaire credit. He could easily have stunk the place out agianst Nikiosha, but instead chose to take some risks to get the KO. The same could be said against Mathebula. He could have boxed more intelligently (in fact he should have boxed more intelligently), but instead he went for the KO.

To be honest, I'm not 100% sure Rigo would beat Mathebula since he'll be comparitively undersized, and prefers to box off the backfoot.

If you remember, Donaire had to be aggressive against Mathebula due to his size and reach advantage and Donaire is every bit as fast or faster than Rigo.

Mathebula also has a great jaw, and doesn't get reckless.

    Will Rigo take that fight?

Doubtful. Who will Rigo fight next? Another nobody? When will he fight anybody?

Don't you think Mathebula would take the fight?

This may be the only chance Mathebula will get to put his name out there again.

It's doubtful that anyone else will fight him considering his level of risk.

I guarentee you that Mathebula would take a fight against Rigo. If Rigo blows him out, it would be hard to deny him a fight against Donaire.

Mares is a more deserving challenger than Rigo is. I'm fine with a Rigo/Donaire fight but there is no place for comments about "ducking" when one fighter has proved so little. Rigondeaux has still not beaten an elite fighter, so before calling out the absolute best, he should be looking at proving himself.

This was the same reason the fight didn't happen in 2010. Rigo wanted Donaire after he beat Cordoba but instead of fighting the elite, he fought Casey, Ramos, Kenney and Marroquin. He hasn't proved himself yet so nobody has any right to mention ducking.

If Rigo wants it, he should make it happen. He's never tried to do that.

At this stage of his career, Rigo should be fighting more often.

If he had been fighting 3-4 fights a year,he'd be in a position whereby the likes of Donaire couldnt have been avoiding him by now.

For the record,I dont think Donaire is ducking him

Arum is saving Rigo's short career. Take that to the bank. Nonito lays him out COLD and with EASE.

This is an utterly simplistic framing of the situation. Mares is not a realistic challenger for either guy due to promotional affiliations, and a single win over Morel at a catchweight does not make him more deserving at this weight class.

More importantly however, Rigondeaux and Donaire share the same promoter. You're making it sound like Rigondeaux is ducking the elite and simply waiting around for the Donaire fight to be made, but the truth is he's had next to no promotional support for that end. How is he supposed to get anyone to fight him when his promoter is unwilling to actually promote him and puts up absolute peanut sized purses for him and his opponents? Top Rank had absolutely nothing to do with his world title fight with Ramos.

Mathebula was the IBF champion, he was not a mandatory.

Vasquez Jr was coming off an embarrassing KO loss to a shot-to-**** Jorge Arce when he faced Donaire. The WBO decided to sanction Donaire-Vasquez Jr for the vacant belt Arce had JUST beaten Vasquez Jr for, when Arce went back to BW.

And yes, this is a shameful duck, especially when the #1 and #2 guys are in the same promotional stable. (And yes, Rigo is #2 if you go by RING rankings, which I hope we all do.)

Donaire will probably fight Arce next, with Rigo maybe getting the winner of Mijares-Marquez, if I was to guess...
