"I want the rematch," Lewis said, speaking to the media on a conference call from New York. "I enjoyed that fight. It was just a fight. We went at it. You have to play dollars and cents but I'm opting more for the rematch. I am looking into the rematch because I want Vitali Klitschko." Lewis said that before he agrees to the rematch he wants his own doctor to examine Klitschko's injured eye to make sure it will be OK for a fight. :hi:
So fighters aren't allowed to change their minds? Funny how you give Vittles a pass for losing to Byrd and not rematching after he told the crowd (who was cheering Byrd) he would get his title back and was still prime, but not Lewis who won and was past prime. Can you say HYPOCRISY?
Lewis changed his mind precisely at the moment when doctors cleared Vitali to fight. Lewis pulled out of fight that he thought he could not win. Of course he is ALLOWED to do it as much as Haye is allowed to blame his performance against Wlad on broken toe. Lewis won the fight on refs mistake, agreed to rematch and then backpedalled and gave up the title to spare himself the beating. Vitali retired Lewis and started "the Klitschko era" in boxing.
While I don't agree with your stance even in the slightest, credit has to be given to you for your refusal to back down. You are one persistant sum of a gun
What was the refs mistake? You're not going with the phantom thumb again, are you? You know, the one not a single person involved with the fight ever made an issue of. And Lewis had every right to change his mind seeing as he already beat Vittles the first time. Of course that's a big difference from Vitaly telling his fans he'd get his title back after quitting and never even trying to pursue a Byrd rematch, instead leaving it in the hands of his more suited brother. So quit with your hypocrisy. The only difference between these two cases is Lennox won and chose to ride into the sunset a winner while Vitty lost to Byrd, lied to his fans and remained active while never pursuing a rematch. Game, set, match! You're dismissed! :hi:
He seemed quite confident for a man that was losing and close to being knocked out? If they hadn't of stopped the fight Lennox would have gotten his overrated ass knocked out/
He's just trying too hard to act cool and to disguise the fact that he retired out of fear for a rematch. For someone with an ego the size of Lewis' that must be unbearable. That's why he'll always talk **** about Vitali and K2 in general and act all butthurt whenever they're mentioned Vitali made him insecure of his manhood, and he'll go to the grave with that, Lewis will never forgive that.
And he retired only after WBC ORDERED the rematch, like a year after their fight He was probably planning to keep on ducking Vitali forever, once he couldn't do it anymore, retirement was the only option.
