How would Joe Louis have done in the 90's era?

He'd get smoked by the likes of Tyson, Lewis, Bowe, beat up by Holy, and probably even knocked out by old man Foreman.

In other words, he wouldn't be ****.

Same goes for Marciano.

 

Guyss like Dempsey and Tunney would get knocked out in one round by guys like Brewster or Rahman. Totally different era, but those were the best then.

 

Louis fought a lot of punchers and got up more often than anyone to win (bar perhaps Patterson).

Lewis is the only one I see beating him. Holy is 50/50. He´d beat both in a rematch though. The rest? He might pick up another loss to a top contender when he is unfocused but outside of such a fluke he´d beat them all.

That's an excellent point I must say. In all honesty Bowe is the only man I can see beating Louis in the early 90s. The one that fought Holyfield may be able to out brawl Joe and take him out late.

I don't see Tyson beating Joe either. Not any version of 90s Tyson anyway. Joe's punches are to well placed and precise. We'd see Mike get incredibly frustrated and start throwing telegraphed punches. He wasn't as quick as he was back in 87/88.

Holyfield's game is the same as Louis' accept Louis punches a lot harder. I think this would be a real tactical bout. Both men's beards hold up and Holyfield would try and drag Louis into a war, but Joe would be composed and calm picking off Holyfield with his huge right and wobbling him several times, on the way to a close UD

Early 90s Lewis? He was a KO waiting to happen in my eyes. Louis KOs him with a big straight right early with Lennox's chin hanging out and I doubt many people would disagree with this.

Now mid to late 90s, with Bowe, Holyfield and Tyson all deteriorating to an extent it's down to a rejuvinated Lewis with Emmanuel steward to keep the distance and box soundly for 12 rounds keeping his focus. I think he could do it, but at the same time it's Joe Louis. A 50-50 fight if Joe's in his prime. Anything short of it then I think Lennox would stop his opponent late on.

Also I see Ike's name being thrown about in this thread. I think he'd have the same problem as 90s Tyson, in the sense that he throws to many wild punches and Joe being the masterful technician that he is would win a competitive UD. However being in the late 90s Joe would no longer be at his best and could buckle under the relentless pressure Ibeabuchi would put him under.

So prime for prime I only see 2 men from the 90s beating him and even they are 50-50 fights in a Bowe that fought Holyfield and Lennox from around the 95-99 range. However if Louis isn't at his best there are a huge selection of fighters from the 90s that could cause the upset.

 

The Buster Douglas of Tokyo outboxes Louis with his jab movement and combinations stopping him late. But the Holyfield version gets KO'd

 

PP I often find myself agreeing with you, but not here. Sure Godzilla Tokyo Douglas is a H2H beast, but Tyson was throwing wild, although quick hooks, that Douglas could see coming. Douglas from Tokyo matches up well against someone that is relentless with their pressure like Tyson, but someone like Louis, with technically aggressive pressure and relatively straight punches are all wrong for Douglas. I like Joe by late stoppage or a close UD, but sure you are entitled to your opinion :good

What Douglas did in Tokyo had as much to do with Tyson as with Douglas.

 

Thank YOu Wed, I see Douglas at his best as a prodigy and rate him very highly. Douglas has many of the qualities Conn and Walcott had and much more. He's also 6'4 and 230 in shape, imo 1 of the best HW jabs in history, some of the best lateral movement of a champion and seemless combination punching. The counter punching and timing of Tyson on the way in was beautiful stuff too

The most underrated HW champion of all time, mainly because he didn't show up against Holyfield or have any sort of decent comeback

Well obviously Louis would have to be in his prime...But as much as I love Joe, fighting guys like Tyson, Lewis, Holyfield, Bowe, or even Wlad!!!..I dont know. This is a great thread cause its mind boggling...Im not too sure he would have made it against a prime Tyson..Holy maybe goes down..Lewis would have been a tough fight, but all it takes is for these guys to make one little mistake and Joe would capitalize...Which would be bad for any fighter from the the 90's...

Ya ok..But Buster IS NOT beating Louis!..Buster had 15 minutes of fame, no more no less...he got Lucky against Tyson, and thats one fight outa an entire career
