Agreed. People here seem obsessed with pushing 'their boys' into a title shot as soon as possible. Daft really. Look how poor Fury looked a year ago (admittedly he looked better the previous year) and now look at him. Think what potentially he'll be like this time next year. Fury's camp have made serious noise about their next opponent being of a high standard. If it's someone like Dimitrenko, Johnson or Chagaev I will be very impressed. Those are close fights that put him in the top 10 if he gets through.
People want to see him in big fights because he talks **** about fighting the best constantly but it never happens. 'I'm moving onto bigger and better things' Then he fights Martin Rogan and Vinny Maddalone atsch
I'll give Price the benefit of the doubt on this one. The fight is in 6 weeks, it's for the Lonsdale belt outright. He gets a pass. If the next opponent is **** after, then he'll get some stick
But this fight against Skelton isn't for the Lonsdale 'outright' is it? I thought you had to win it (vs Sexton), then defend it 3 times (vs Harrison, Skelton....), so he will need to fight another Brit after Skelton.
It will be Skelton in Dec then probably another British contender probably Sprott possibly Chisora in Feb then a step up in May-ish time which I think is fair enough. Price has been impressive but its a fine line between moving him through the levels and getting him some experience in. After all he has been knocking people cold so early he has barely had time to learn.
Hopefully Chisora after that to win the lonsdale belt outright, then a decent euro level opponent. Price has stated when sparring with Pulev it was 50/50 that speaks volumes of Price's potential.
Fair enough, it's a fight that can be made in a matter of weeks but what is Price learning from beating up has-been domestic fighters? These type of fights really can't be doing him any favour. Let's see what Maloney comes up with after Christmas though....
It does seem a waste of time fight, its actually worse than that. If Price doesn't feel confident about trying for European honours at the moment against Pulev then maybe he could go for the leftovers in Ustinov or Dimitrenko
If thats the case then you are going to have a couple of fights that are completely meaningless in the general scheme of things....Skelton is pretty much scraping the bottom of a not very deep barrel, so who for the third defence, theres really no one else out there.
