I truly believe this. TR has the following stars after Manny Pacquiao: This content is protected And then the biggish sort of names, but two are PR fighters that have limited marketability now due to KO losses: This content is protected After that, it's guys w/ a bit of a name, but not much else. They could be bankable in the future: This content is protected Donaire isn't afraid of the Hideous Cuban - Arum's just keeping them apart because outside of 3 guys, Top Tank has no clear stars and marketable fighters after Manny Pacquiao. :hi:
he'll get his shot, rigo just extended contract and opponents are being limited, after arce there is only Mares Moreno Rigo or move to 126 for Salido Mikey Garcia which would never happen Gamboa @ 130 or catchweigh will see. I truly believe arum would allow it .
I was a big believer in Rigo until his last fight. Donaire was pretty over rated, and now I think he's rated about just right with most fans. I think i'd favor Donaire now about 60/40 because of Rigo's chin. I think if Rigo had another performance where he showed he was very vunerable then Arum will leap at the opportunity to put Donaire against him.
Donaire will probably move up and expect Rigo to be his last fight at the weight. Arum needs to pump up Rigo's status some and he probably doesn't want them sharing the same weight class with GB holding the rest of the players.
If arum is smart and knows Rigo needs one good name on his resume at least. he puts Donaire-ARCE Rigo- WVJR/Terrazas/Darchynian on the undercard and then fight Early next year, then move up. Mares Moreno ain't happening espcially if Moreno wins, if Mares wins they might consider it in a year when his contract is up.
I actually think Moreno is more likely to happen than Mares. Mares is a homegrown Golden Boy star with a marketable future; Moreno doesn't have the same long-term potential. I could see a scenario where Moreno-Rigondeaux is made simply because both companies have no idea what to do with either guy, much like Lara-Vanes. Top Rank probably wouldn't let Moreno near Donaire, but it too has a better chance of happening than Donaire-Mares IMO simply because at least one side would be willing to play ball.
I agree with you 100% it makes no business sense for Bob to let riggy fight donaire, it either ruins riggy's marketability and could turn in to a dead weight in the stable if he loses or if riggy wins he is the new champ but doesn't have a big fan base and a win over donaire still wont give him the fan base of donaire so its a loss for Arum if riggy wins or loses and it also does little for donaire if he wins and isn't worth feeding him riggy for the small gain. Let the fight build and mature then let them have a mega fight and bob cash's in it more likely will happen when one of there contracts is coming to and end. Bob will do it before they are able to get free.
So a loss would make Rigondeaux "dead weight in the stable" but having him fight nobodies and doing the bare minimum to promote him doesn't make him so? I'd also note doing that bare minimum is most certainly a great way to build up a potential "mega fight."
