Who got in the best work? Matthysse or Rios. I would love to see that fight. Too bad they're with different promoters.

No. It's very old. It happend on Memorial Day.

that is some of the old footage that Ellie Sechbach is uploading to make up for his lack of Brandon Rios footage.

If I was a trainer I really wouldnt have my guys sparring as much as the Rios's, Pacs, Toneys, ect do..... (although Garcia has cut back on Rios's sparring)

IMO.... it just adds needless miles onto your brain.

Not saying I wouldnt have sparring, but the number of rounds would be limited to a certain extent.

Sometimes I see Pacs training camps and I feel like his sparring for the fights puts more miles on him then most of his fights have....

Martinez, and even Holyfield, I believe didnt spar all that often in their training camps. I could be wrong though.

Idk.... just imo, not a fan of grueling gym wars over and over again.

Everybody enjoy Rios while you can. I guarantee the dude will not have a long career.

What are you disagreeing with? He asked if he had sparred Lucas just before and he had. This is an old video. Most likely before Acosta due to it being at Garcia's old gym and the look of the place. How old it is has no bearing on the purpose of the thread.

Id be suprised if hes still gaining momentum within 4 fights.

Meaning winning vs high level opposition, 4 fights from now.

I think hes near his slide.... guy just takes way too many shots.

However, theres been many fighters with those kind of careers, and every so often one of those types wind up having a much longer career then anyone could have thought, while also not winding up quite as brain damaged as people thought they would. I hope Brandon falls into that catagory.

However, what I hope for most is that he doesnt self destruct when hes no longer 'the man'. I hope he finds a good place inside the gym with Garcia even when hes done fighting.

James Toney has said himself he doesn't do mitts or any conventional preparation other than sparring and look how he has turned out...

Your not going to win fights just hitting the mitts and heavy bag. You need sparring and it can be done at different levels. Also, trainers find other sparring partners that can mimic future opponents. Like the saying, a bag is not going to hit you back. It is like I tell people who have black belts, but have not had actual sparring. I have seen guys with black belts and no sparring get their asses handed to them in a street fight. I called them paper belts. lastly and I know many have seen this. I have seen guys come in train like animals and when they finally get in the ring to spar. It does not go well for them.

Not true. You forgot he is a talker. That is the machismo talking. Of course he trains with mitts and other equipment. I don't doubt that he spars like an animal, but you see sparring wares everywhere especially back in Philly. This is what hurt Meldrick Taylor who loved to go to war and why? His career would have lasted longer if he used his God gifted boxing ability instead of brawling.
