The man was a force at 126 in the 90's.

Fought a few name guys as well, and was a solid and established champion.

The roster includes Manuel Medina (twice), Alejandro Gonzales (a brutal loss brutally avenged back), Cesar Soto (IMO lost twice to Louie) and Kennedy McKinney (His last great win IMO) and a slew of respectable contenders. Hiranaka, Ramirez, and most notably Carlos Alberto Rios who took Floyd Mayweather the distance and lasted 9 rounds with Acelino Freitas. Espinosa took him on as an undefeated challenger and dispensed him in 6.

He started at 118 and beat Khaokor Galaxy to be a titleholder. Although his best work is actually at 126.

He ended up with a record of 47-13, 26 KO's. However, he didn't retire soon enough and added unnecessary losses on his record.

Unfortunately, he never got a match that would've provided him the name and money that he deserved. Naseem Hamed for whatever reason never picked a fight with him. But the many guys around him did. Medina, Soto and Tom Johnson.

He was a good fighter who was kind of chinny. Unfortunately, like more Filipino fighter's, he was too generous and now he is penniless. It was sad seeing him at the end of his career when he was a gatekeeper getting beat up by lesser fighters.

Contreras battered Espinosa. And Khaokor fainted.

Good, solid fighter from what I know and have seen of him.

Nice guy too, at least in my encounters with him.

Good fighter, underrated puncher with an average chin that combination of power plus weak chin meant he was involved in some exciting shootouts, was the mandatory for one of Hamed's belts (WBA i think it was) but Hamed vacated instead of facing him, a shame cause i think afight between them would have been a classic.

   ^^

    I'd like to disagree Flea.

There's a dark reason Hamed never fought guys he was supposed to.

Espinosa for one, Kennedy McKinney another, the most glaring one is Marquez who was his mandatory for WBO for years.

In fact, they chose Barrera because they were banking on the belief that Barrera was done and the savage war with Morales took all the starch out of him.

    I agree.

I always like to recommend people to watch the Espinosa-Rios war.

That's the best Louie I have seen IMO, and a very powerful puncher too at that time.

Nah, I do not agree. Especially when it comes to Espinosa, as Vasquez could really hit and had recently demonstrated it (Ring Magazine knockout of the year was it not?)

They picked Barrera because they fought he'd be easy to tag. Not because he couldn't punch.

Naseem was not worried about getting hit. IMO :good

I think Naz did try to fight everyone BUT Espinosa.

Soon as he lost, he did fight the guy who beat him.

Can't see why Naz would avoid him. He wasn't that good.

Obviously he did avoid fighting him, but can't see it being due to the fighter.

**** knows but Espinosa is getting made out to be a little scarier than he actually was IMO.

    Good, but not brilliant.

This is pure nonsense. The fight with Barrera was talked up for several years before it was even signed, and it was generally acknowledged by most - including Hamed - that he was going to fight the winner of Morales-Barrera.

And Manny Steward was sitting ringside for Barrera's previous with Jesus Salad, and Barrera never looked sharper in his life.
