Sure, if you think he could beat Floyd if they were the same size. Again, another misinterpretation of "Pound-for-Pound."

Nonsense. 168lbs is one of the strongest and deepest divisions in boxing and Ward has cleaned it out and done it in style. What evidence do you have the Dawson was weight drained? Moving down a division doesn't automatically make a fighter weight drained.

 

The top 5 P4P is the strongest it has been for years. I would probably have Ward #3 if I'm feeling lenient towards Floyd's relative inactivity and harsh towards Wladimir's poor/mediocre competition.

 

Because winning a close fight isn't enough to put him above Manny IMO. Manny has much better wins on his resume than JMM: Cotto, De La Hoya, Hatton, Morales etc. Styles make fights, and JMM is a very tough match-up for Manny.

 

p4p=recent wins man not your entire resume...p4p=what have you done lately...if you think he beat Manny then Jmm should be ahead of him..no way he loses to Jmm and still p4p#2 ahead of fighters who havent lost..thats crazy

 

For what? For beating a weight-drained Dawson?

The 168 is full of garbage and fringe contenders.

Brian Viloria beat more credible contenders for the last few years than Ward.

 

Marquez best recent wins are that Russian guy and Katsidis.

Pacquiao - a faded Mosley that couldn't even beat Sergio Mora, and Margarito who was suspended for a year and got his ass kicked by the same faded guy previously mentioned.

Mayweather's best recent win was against a guy that got booted out of the welterweight division and snuck in the back door of junior middleweight fighting the likes of Forman, Mayorga and even more shot by this point - Margarito.

Now tell me Ward's recent run doesn't at the very least match these accomplishments, him being number one is not that unbelievable to me. It's time to let go because the new guard is here.

 

Agreed, over the last 2-3 years he has accomplished more than any other. However many arguments there are though, I just couldnt put him above Floyd. As it stands, I give him #2.

 

I don't have him quite a number 1 yet but if you look at it from a "what have you done for me lately" point of view, then in the last 3 years his resume and performances have been better than that of other pound for pound stars like Mayweather, Pacquiao, Martinez and Donaire.

 

How do you define 'recent'? I prefer to look at the body of work over a number of years. One victory isn't enough to put JMM ahead of Pac at this point IMO. Pac is barely clinging on to that number 2 spot ahead of Donaire and Ward for me, but I think he's done enough to hold onto it for now. P4P lists are always subjective anyway.

 

You can make a case for the top 5 fighters being P4P champs, it's just in the case with Ward it would hold very little merit to it.

He's fought top guys for 3 years now, but to reach the apex of this sport and be widely considered the #1 guy P4P you have to have a much longer and decorated resume than the one Ward holds.

You could make a case for JMM even being #1 as in my eyes he hasn't lost to anyone for god knows how many years aside from FLoyd (I had him beating Pacman in all 3 fights.)

In my opinion:

1- Floyd
2- Pacman
3- Marquez
4- Martinez
5. Ward or Wladimir- The heavyweight division is as diluted and weak as I've ever seen it, but he's beaten everyone put in front of him for years now and he's been quite dominant in his wipeout of the division.

Anyway I can't see Ward being anything higher than3rd or 4th best at this point, but he's still VERY young and has time to escalate in the ranks.
