Shane was recognized as the champ in the division, was a top 5 fighter P4P, and just beaten the "scariest" guy in the division.

Saying that a Cotto catchweight bout when he has no trainer and had gotten beat down by Margarito recently is a better win is pretty silly logic.

And they still needed a catchweight to "even" things out :-(

I don't think there was an actual 'Recognized' Champ in the division. Maybe Shane was close to fittnig the bill, but that was never official. And again, stil using some bull**** P4P ranking to make a point? Really? So, who said that last part anyway? I sure as hell didn't anywhere in my post.

Shane was definitely the champ in the division at the moment. Unless you considered Floyd the champ still, despite the layoff and Margarito beating Cotto?

Again, the lineage was never re-established when Floyd retired. I thought it SHOULD have been when Margarito beat Cotto, but for some reason, it was nbever made official. No revisionist history here.

Made official by whom? The RING? Can't really trust them to make the right call anymore. Not ever since giving Casa the RING belt for beating Santa Cruz :-(

Usually the general consensus. Which is why re-establishing a lineage is often times so diffucult. Shane was 'A' welterweight champ, not THE WW champ.
I can admit he was probably the closest thing, and maybe the most deserving. But boxing doesn't always work that way.

Good point. Mosley was really considered the guy to beat at the weight. Which Pac had the chance to do, but didn't.

Once again you prove you don't know **** about the sport.

The fight was for Margarito's WBA title and the vacant Lineal Welterweight Championships of Lineal Champs and Cyber Boxing Zone (CBZ).[5][6] The Ring did not recognize this bout for its vacant Welterweight Championship despite the fact, it pitted The Ring #1 ranked welterweight, Antonio Margarito vs. The Ring #3 ranked welterweight, Shane Mosley. Coming in the bout, Margarito had just TKO'd the previous The Ring #1 ranked welterweight and current The Ring #2 ranked welterweight, Miguel Cotto.[7]
