Reading the beginning of that interview, I thought he was being a bit too harsh. But as I went on, he had a good point.
Yep. How you gonna call yourself a "throwback" fighter, harshly critisize a true legend in the sport and accuse him of being a "quitter" - only to do the very same thing in your next fight? Not a good look for Dawson at all. I'd be surprised if the next live body he faces doesn't put serious pressure on him from the jump...
Yeah he does.. I don't remember that comment from Dawson, but he ****ed himself over by saying that and acting like he did in his next fight. I remember Shane wanted out of the Pacquiao fight and Nazim wouldn't let him..
Yup. To be honest, I hadn't thought of that (the taunting of Bernard). Completely slipped my mind until Brother Nazim mentioned it right there. I even gave Chad a pass when he quit. But it's hard to argue with Brother Nazim's points there.
Well, I would say it was "throwback" of him to accept the fight and drop down to 168 for the first time in 6+ years. It was "throwback" of him attempting to hold two lineal titles consecutively. Naz is just bitter that Hopkins struggled to nip 3 rounds off of Dawson in the rematch. 2012 Hopkins is clearly below 2012 Dawson, who is clearly below 2012 Ward. Yes, Dawson may have quit against Ward, but unlike most other fighters he actually showed real intelligence and was realistic in knowing what was happening, his limits, and how it relates to his future health. I think more fighters should "retire" themselves in a match. I don't hold against them the same "Victor Ortiz stigma" that many people seem to.
I'm sorry but after all the **** Dawson talked about Bernard after the first fight ended as it did - and being that Bernard is the legend that he is - it's really not a good look for Dawson to go out and QUIT in his *very* next fight against the smaller guy. Bro Naz is adding insult to injury - and using Dawson's own words to do it. I'm itching to hear Chad's response...
I couldn't believe it when people were criticising others for saying Chad quit, they were saying he was taking a beating. **** off, a beating is Briggs vs Vitali or Murray vs Rios, there are loads to name. Chad got wobbled, stood back up fine and just quit.
Chad knew he wasn't winning that fight and wanted to go home and not take anymore punishment.. I can't say I blame him for not wanting to take a continued beating, but I do blame him for opening his mouth about Hopkins doing it then quitting himself.. Not like he had a broken jaw or anything major, just didn't want to get hit anymore because it was no win in sight..
