How much did toneys heavyweight stint help his legacy?

I don't like Toney one little bit (although I respect him greatly and love watching some of his fights Barkley and Littles especially) but even I wouldn't have liked to see this, as much as I enjoyed seeing Roy Jones whipping James' backside.

It's a no-brainer Wlad destroys him but a 6"7 giant beating the **** out of a short, fat guy wouldn't be edifying for anyone with half a concience and would've been no credit to Klitschko at all.

 

at 160 he could have that excuse at 168 he would of been strugling...but blowing up to 200 inbetween supermikddleweight fights is just ridiculous

 

Toney would run his mouth, and perhaps even stay something politically incorrect. The pre-fight hype might be enough to make you watch.

I agree Wlad would smash him. I agree in hindsight, it would not enhance Wlad's legacy much. Toney turned down a bigger money fight with Wlad, and a chance for a title to meet a non name. He knew Wlad would smash him, but his ego could remain intact if by avoiding Wlad.

Another reason I wanted to see this fight is there are select few people in the boxing media who don't like Wlad, and think a 5'10" fat heavy could beat him. Teddy Atlas and Max Kellerman's predictions would have been classic stuff!

Some of the drivel these two speak makes me wonder why they have the term "boxing expert" affixed to them so often.

The dislike for the Klitschko's is one of boxings great mysteries to me. They are always in shape, they fight clean, they're intelligent, articulate, don't engage in pathetic trash talk, they are dominant fighters and classy guys. What more do you want from a World Heavyweight Champion?

Watching cocks like David Haye and Derek Chisora rolling around fighting last year whilst the brothers remained removed from that **** reminded me that we should be grateful for what we've got at the top of the division right now.

I must look at a James Toney fight every month. He's one of the guy I like to watch box the most. His handspeed at heavyweight is what was so amazing. He was still hitting as fast as he did at cruiserweight (not sure it was as fast as SMW), but against much slower opponents. He also fought some pretty good opposition : he was a top HW at some point which is amazing for a former MW.


He'd be rated much higher without the PEDs.

Not that ANYBODY could blame him if he did but I just don't see Toney avoiding any fighter regardless and his resume shows this.

 

If they had made a superheavy division and James had trained, he could have operated very well between 200-215. It was always fun to watch his skills at work but he rarely fought 3 minutes a round and long ago gave up preparing correctly for his bouts.
