Ricky Burns would punish Rios

i agree! Burns is super fit, plus he's very tough with a big heart and a good chin! this is where he's underrated. He's the most teak tough fighter in the u.k. outside Froch, very durable.
Rios is a beast but so is Burns, he's huge and seems to get bigger and stronger with every fight at lightweight.
Sure Burns could well outbox Rios but i also think he could hold his own if he has to tough it out, there is no way Rios would just walk through him plus Burns has a very good defence!
In saying all that Burns is too clever to let a beast like Rios drag him into a war! Burns would box Rios off the back foot and use educated pressure! Clever adaptable fighter is Burns, never write him off!
It would be another step up for Burns and a great fight imo!

Agreed. I know it's a long shot and people will disagree, but I could honestly see Burns giving Rios a bit of a lesson. Maybe not on the same scale as Froch-Bute but I think that Rios leaves himself too open and gets drawn in too easily. Burns would definitely capitalise on this and I could see Rios becoming too frustrated and taking a bit of a beating. Debatable opinion I know....

Which is why he'll retire by the age of 30...if he's smart. In the meantime, however, he'll be a force to be reckoned with.

He's been down a few times(mostly against Johanneson) but hasn't been sparkled or stopped. Was down in the first against Martinez and we know what happened there.
Definitely think the chin has improved with him not being drained.
Wouldn't say granite, but certainly not glass.

At lightweight Burns would dominate imo, Rios looked very poor against the very average John Murray, he wouldn't have the stamina, strength or power to get to Ricky. At lightweight it's a 50-50 fight, i'd slightly favour Burns to keep it at range enough to take a razor thin decision, but it all depends on how he deals with Bam Bam's pressure in the first half of the fight.

    No chance

The better the opponent, the better the Rickster is

Rios and his fans would be in for a bad night if this fight happens, at 135 or 140 :smoke

Why bring up the Murray fight when Bam Bam was dehydrated and at his worst yet was still able to stop a top fighter like Murray? Also folks forgetting Rios actually does GOOD against mobile fighters like Acosta and Peterson not just face first brawlers like Untillon or ko punchers like Alvarado. Abril had some nasty power, speed, and timing behind those shots he's crafty as hell and most of all a top notch defense. I like Burns he's like a UK version of Chavez without the iron jaw, power, and ferocity, but he seems like a cool operator fights well under pressure and I like he's a complete fighter not one dimensional at all. Would of liked to see a Rios-Burns showdown.

Rios struggled to make weight for Murray and Abril and it showed in the ring despite beating Murray to a bloody pulp.

Abril is very slick and has good defense but that's about it. Rios was half dead from trying to make weight and Abril still couldn't hurt him.

Rios would walk through Burns shots, work that body and eventually stops him.

Trust me, I've seen Burns defense and it's nothing to marvel about.

Do you seriously think Rios will respect his power?

 Dont make stuff up to suit your argument, fatboy didnt even bother trying to make weight against Abril, he came in at 139

A JWW against a LW and he still barely won a round.

Kinda reminds me of Burns beating Katsidis.. and any other shams he beat.

    Everything you say describes Burns.
