Chances are Floyd is not going to Fight Martinez no time soon or ever. Martinez is in a postion where he could move up or drop down to 154lb. He could fight Canelo, Cotto etc, but neither one of the those fights would elevate his popularity like a victory over Andre Ward. I'm sure Ward would fight him and Marinez adding the extra weight shouldn't hurt him. So why not go for it?

Sergio would prob make double the amount fighting either Alvarez or Cotto.
IF I'm team Martinez I fight the JMW's & avoid SMW.

Martinez should go down to 154 and start cleaning house there.

Have you seen the fan base that follow both Canelo and Cotto?

Why doesn't Ward move down like Dawson did?

Agreed. Ward is somewhat popular, Canelo and Cotto are both in the top 5 in the world in terms of popularity.

No, he has no chance, let's not kid ourselves. I'd rather have him drop 6 pounds and fight Canelo.

That's what I'd like to see him do. He says he can make the weight easily, well go for it then. Canelo, Mayweather, Cotto, Lara. All top fights right there.

I can envision a scenario where Martinez takes a fight at 154 and Sulaiman immediately strips him to present the belt to a moving up Alvarez.

It's not that bad of a idea. Canelo really has not been tested yet, which is why Golden boy wasn't intrestead with him fighting Mayweather, Cotto has been in to many wars, folks will tune in, but chances are Martinez will beat him. Ward on the other hand has beat every good fighter at his weight and just took out the top LHW. He's young and he's a champion. Beating ward would be more impressive then beating Cotto or Canelo, and for obvious reasons. Moving up and beating a good bigger fighter at his own weight is always better then beating the little guy at his own weight. Unless the little guy is Mayweather.

Well for one, Ward status is better then Martinez, so Martinez should move up.

Martinez made more money fighting Darren Barker than Ward did in his last fight and just fought in the main event of one of the biggest non-Pacweather PPVs of the last 3 years.

What about the legacy. Boxing focus to much on the buisness aspect of things, which is why we have not seen Mayweather vs Pacquiao. Martinez don't have to many years left. Why not do something that will shock boxing fans? I have no doubt that he will beat Canelo or Cotto should he fight either guy. Sure he'll make money doing it, but beating them will not be as impressive as beating Ward would be. They could put Ward title on the line being that there fighting at his weight. Should Martinez loose, he could still keep his MW title and then defended against Canelo, Cotto etc.
