ANDREW FLINTOFF admits he still has a long way to go before he is in shape for his big fight debut — despite losing two-and-a-half stone already.

The former England cricket captain steps into the MEN Arena ring six weeks tomorrow for his heavyweight boxing bow.

And for the last three months Barry and Shane McGuigan have been putting the Lancashire lad through his paces.

But Flintoff insists he will not get complacent and is fully committed to his tough training regime.

In the first of our exclusive video diaries, the Ashes hero told SunSport: “I’ve had better things in my life than getting punched!

“It’s a stark contrast from cricket. You used to stop for sandwiches in cricket but in this you stop to spit a load of blood out of your mouth into a bucket!"

Flintoff added: “The diet is tough. It’s not just a diet, it’s a whole lifestyle thing.

“There’s no secret I like a pint and I’ve not had one of those now for 10 weeks and I won’t until whenever.

“The end goal is so important — that’s the thing that’s spurring me on. You can’t cut any corners in this game.

“The training now is two sessions a day so it’s taken its toll fatigue wise, but I couldn’t commit any more than what I’m doing.

“I’m giving it everything from diet to training and I’m in the best hands possible.

“I’ve dropped 40 pounds but there’s more to go.”
