Will Morales be dismissed by some as Jones, Toney, Holyfield are?

I think most of these big name modern fighters who have had serious financial backing have also had the benefit of other kinds of help, as well. And sometimes a guy gets caught. Sometimes just the right guy at the right time, to make things seem like the the sport is being well-patrolled when it is not. Regardless, I don't put much weight on the chemical concerns for Toney or RJJ and I won't for Morales either. I dismiss none of them and their careers while pretending everyone else must have been operating under the poor, little disadvantage of the squeaky-clean innocent. I think it's all a big dog and pony show, the whole bleeding thing.

I tend to agree, but it seems some fans/analysts only give grief to those that are caught.

    Which is understandable, I guess.

He's been busted for an 'illegal substance'.

Those guys mentioned have their achievements called into question by some for the same reason. I wonder if Morales, one of the most respected and loved fighters of the modern era, will be treated the same?

I'm on the same wavelength as Boxed Ears for the most part.

Can't believe DLH didn't get done for weight cutters when his carcass entered the ring against Pac.

I can't believe Morales keeps making this mistake and ballooning up between fights.

You'd think he's back in the game for legacy but don't think that's the case. Not taking it seriously.

Looks like a respitory enhancer used as a diuretic.

stupid move on his part, he's too old to make me care too much about his prime 10 years ago though.

good to see testing catching people for various substances recently, effective testing is the first step to clean up a sport.

the beef excuse is yet to be fully disproved so he isn't 100% guilty imo yet (clembutorol is given to cows, see contador case)

Well, depends when they get caught. If the get caught right in their prime, I think their performances should be suspicious and their ranking should reflect that, no clue how though. If they are caught at the tail end of their careers, I assume they only did it then and needed to do it because their recuperation processes take longer due to age. I´m more likely to "forgive" it in these cases.

It's part of modern sport, when you train really really hard so you're in agony, it seems like a waste not to take a pill that will help you pass your bests in training. For those reasons I don't hold it against athletes too much. People can take the same drugs and not get anywhere near world class, the drugs doesn't do the work for you

Some people actually go backwards under PEDs because they think the drug will do the training and hard work for them, it won't. It allows you to go beyond if you're willing to push yourself hard enough

Clen is typically used as a fat loss substance and Morales is a fatty now. It could be used for stamina too perhaps but I think he's using it to cut weight. Morales has always been a weight cutter, so you could speculate that he's done such things before, maybe, maybe not. 1 thing I will say is that he typically had a size advantage due to his weight cutting. He had about 10lbs on Barrera in their fights for example. Pacquaio and Chi matched him for size mind you, being big weight cutters themselves. There are legal and illegal ways to cut weight, but in essence they both give the same advantages

A good point, but I also feel that if a fighter is morally capable of cheating at the end of his career why wouldn't he throughout it?

Just as a personal view I can't take seriously the careers of the likes of Toney,Morales or RJJ because of their drugs offences. We condemn the likes of Ben Johnson, Linford Christie and Lance Armstrong to the point that no one seriously considers them proper athletes any more. Why should boxers be exempt? Time for zero tolerance in the sport. Not that I'm naive to believe anything will be done however. Just look at the recent Peterson fiasco.:-(

    Excellent post.

On the surface, Morales is a cheat and all that but as PP said, it's so commonplace in sports now, that I think it's far easier to list the guys not doing something. (Not that I know who they are.)

Hence, I don't know if he should be judged all that harshly, especially since it's come up now, well at the tail end of his career. It's only my opinion, but I'm inclined to think that athletes are more likely to use PED's when they start to fall behind, so to speak.

Supposedly, unlike Contador, there have been instances of Mexican athletes being acquitted because the meat over there I'd tainted.

    Lovely post PowerPuncher BTW :good
