Well, he's been caught in the past using illegal weight-loss drugs.

A number of factors come in to play.

PED's on their own cannot improve skills. They do allow an individual more time to practice skills. But this also goes hand in hand with, does the individual have the trainer to teach them these skills? And then the boxer has to implement them in to their training, sparring and bouts.

Not everyone has an unlimited ability to learn skills and implement them, no matter how long they practice.

So they can and can't improve skills.

For a talented individual who can pick up, learn, and implement skills quickly, it can be very, very effective. But for someone who will never be able to add many skills to their arsenal, it won't be that effective.

I think there are. As mentioned in the previous page:

Do those weight-loss drugs make it a lot easier for you to shed the weight? If they do, then I presume you'll feel a little better in your training as you're not having to make extra effort in starving yourself. So, I guess it enhances your preperation to an extent? Thus making you feel good in the week of the fight, the weigh-in, and the actual night when you replenish.

So, all in all, I think it may have a slightly positive influence on your conditioning.

Good post, so depends on the boxer whether he can adapt to it, any boxers ever got caught using them and did not perform well?

Larry Olubamiwo - This guy was on everything. But individuals reach a ceiling when it comes to skills. PED's don't bring you skills, they just give you an unfair advantage to possibly add skills to your arsenal.

PEDs will allow you to maximise what you can do to a level that you would not be able to get to, with out juicing

Just out of interest, do we know what he tested positive for yet?

There's a difference between a PED and a banned substance (Some PEDs are banned substances but not all banned substances are PEDs).

Chavez jr. recently got caught on weed. I for one and many others suspect this was a "masking agent" used to cover up the steroids use. Thus he'll only land a smaller punishment because he wasn't caught on PEDS.

No not at all. And just because you can train longer of have more explosiveness doesn't equate to better boxing. I mean did it help out Andre Berto? No !

The problem that plagues boxing is not performance enhancers ,boxers aren't seasoned enough that's why too many boxers get exposed or get caught because there are too many dam short cuts !!

    Weed doesn't mask steroids.

It is the prevalent substance seen in the urinalysis which is the first test. This will be observed and tested. Steroids are harder to detect and need blood testing. So if the boxer immediately is caught on weed then they will be tested for that which gives them a longer chance to hide their PED use
