I love entertaining, back and forth bouts that are toe-to-toe. But I love watching good, technical bouts with plenty of skill on display. Showing your toughness, endurance and chin seems to be defined among skills now. :-(

Of course not. Drugs aren't going to help a fighter improve his footwork or combination punching.

I'm arguing that the ability to use your skillset for a longer period of time is a part of that skill. Being able to maintain something for 12 rounds where without PEDs you would not normally be able to, is a way of increasing a fighter's skills. Or rather, his ability to utilize his skills.

Giving someone more bullets for their gun doesn't make them a quicker or more accurate shooter. Allowing someone to use their skill longer in a fight doesn't actually improve their skill.

It doesn't increase your skill though. It helps maintain your current skill level for longer periods. This is a physical increase in ability, not an increase in skills.

If it allows you to perform additional training to improve skills, that without the PED you would not normally be able to do, the additional training time you would gain would qualify as "improving your skills." So I guess it only would improve your skills if any additional benefit gained from the PED was utilized in improving boxing skills. If you are just sitting on the couch pumping yourself full of Winstrol, then no obviously you aren't going to become a better boxer.

If a fighter is using PEDs to:
-recover faster from injury to return to training his skills
    or
-to gain increased endurance allowing for additional or more vigorous training of his skills

then the PEDs are giving him a benefit that the fighter elects to use in increasing his boxing skills. So indirectly the PEDs lead to increased boxing ability.

yes. You can train more often and more intense. It lets you practice your skills more and recover quicker.

    What an obvious question

A couple of my posts in this thread. :good

Not every boxer is capable of learning and applying skills in the ring. All boxers have a limit to their skills, some have higher than others.

What a stupid question, of course they can! If you can train harder and for longer, than you're skills will improve. Of course taking steroids won't turn Eric Crumble into Thomas Hearns. Take someone like Roy Jones, who relied on explosiveness and athleticism, then using peds would have given him significant advantages in his training and preparation

I mean they arent gonna make a chump a champ but they must be good if so many guys take em

I mean they are not gonna make you throw a better punch, take a better punch, dig deep late in a fight and over come adversity

they arent gonna fix those holes in your defense

i will say though that they are pretty placebo i feel for many

Speed, stamina and power are the basics of boxing? And not the footwork, etc?

    Are you sure?
