Is it wrong that I just don't get Ricky Burns?.

Firstly this is not a troll thread. I'm just looking for opinions.

Ricky Burns pretty much slipped under my radar. I'd never really took any notice of him until he stopped Roman Martinez. Since then, I've watched all his fights but I just don't get him.

I've never really commented on an Burns thread, & I'd never backed him to win a big fight, because I always expect him to lose. I don't really know why. He's got bags of heart & spirit, but sometimes he looks a bit amateurish and stiff. He throws wild hooks at times, and his footwork seems a bit pedestrian. Decent jab though.

I see Garcia getting lots of stick in the general. Lots of people don't rate him & expect him to get beat when he properly steps up to world class. Perhaps that's where I am with Burns.

What am I missing people? What can't I see?

Does he have the ability to step up again and beat the big guns at 140? Is he the real deal?

For the record, I have nothing against Burns at all. Just seeking education

I see Burns developing into one of the best or the best scottish fighter ever. he is definately world class now i would put my money on him to beat broner now. I think Burns is technically good and as i dont think he has a 1 KO punch i think his punch power gains respect of his opposition giving himself a good chance of boxing his way to victory.. :good

Wrong place to gauge it mate, there are to many deluded fanboys on here, that will tell you he is the best thing going and will "do" everyone. I feel sorry for anybody that challenges the norm, I really do.

Ricky Burns is the cream of the crop at Domestic level and he will remain so, until he takes it to the fighters above him. I can understand why fans would defend him to the hilt on that and say he already is, but that doesn't mean its correct.

Let me just ask those that say he is world class level and not domestic, is Kevin Mitchell world class level then? Considering he faced Katsidis for the same belt and fought Ricky Burns, although lost both, in your estimation, that MUST, in fact it kind of HAS to mean, Kevin Mitchell is world class level. Because we're not talking about wins or losses, but at the level they are fighting at, so the fact that he lost twice means f*ck all.

To those people: Is Kevin Mitchell above domestic level? Yes. or no?

Whats your definition of "world class" Craney? Burns beat Martinez who, although overated, was surely world class at the time?

That was at Super-Featherweight though mate.

We're talking Lightweight. At LIGHTWEIGHT, so far, Ricky Burns is domestic level, regardless of him beating everyone so far at this level.

It's the step up now, if he does it, he'll be world class at Lightweight. No denying it. :good

@ Lightweight he has fought, Mitchell, Moses and Katsidis, they are domestic fighters. You can make an argument for Katsidis, because he HAS fought Robert Guerrero at the weight AND Marquez. But thats it.

I think it's the fact that he is so humble that makes him so easy to like. I'm much the same as you as I hadn't really seen much of him before the Martinez fight, although I had seen him once or twice where he hadn't been all that impressive.

I sort of sat and thought he was alright but a bit boring and not really a concussive puncher but for me he's really starting to prove himself of being worthy of being a 2 weight world champion. Handling Moses and Katsidis with relative ease is no joke... not exactly p4p stuff but I think shows he's worth his title.

I like that people sort of expect him to fail and he keeps proving them wrong with hard work and determination rather than raw ability.

Well he's not fighting at 140 now is he? Currently? That's for in the future, is he world class now is the question?

World Class at super feather, YES in the past, world class at Lightweight?......I'd say no UNTIL he fights top 3 in the division.

    World class at light welter?

He hasn't fought there yet. :good

Anybody based in Britain would be a huge underdog against Burns so how is he domestic level? He's beaten fringe contenders Katsidis and Moses without much bother and he slaughtered Mitchell so he's obviously world class.

Kevin Mitchell is a notch up from domestic level he has proved that. Burns has proved he is world class now. He will beat Broner mark my words. Theres no way you can class Burns as a top domestic fighter he is much better than that. Burns has swayed my view on him as they were pretty similar to most on here i didnt rate him..

I was being a bit sarky with the 140 comment, I think its a typo from Macho.

To me world class is fighting and getting wins against top 10-15 guys, maybe even losing the odd fight at that level. Top 3 is far too strict a criteria for "world class" IMHO.

OK then, if Kevin Mitchell is a notch up from domestic level, so is Ricky Burns. OK then, what level is that? What level is the notch up from domestic level? Neither have fought at world class level at Lightweight yet, so if they are a notch above domestic level, what are they?

I'd say its still domestic level, but at the top of that level.

It's not world, world is leagues ahead. They haven't proved themselves there just yet.

Moses has won a belt and defended it.He's still top 10.
How does that add up to "domestic"?

"HELD" a title, so has Katsidis! Is Katsidis world class because he HELD a title, or because he has fought TOP competition at the weight? He's fought Marquez and Guerrero.

Has Ricky Burns fought anyone in that league yet?
