He was a protected pampered fighter who held onto a world title belt not fighting the best.

If you have a scroll up "lost" you'll see what somebody really thinks of Lucian Bute, I didn't go that far, but I can tell you for a fact, an awful lot of people think the same as him.

Sometimes the rankings do lie mate.

How high did Audley Harrison get?

"How high did Audley Harrison get?"

He didn't win a world title and defend it 8 times. That's for sure.

WTF are you talking about? All I've said is Ricky Burns isn't world class at lightweight yet, and all his little fanboys have got a raging boner, I haven't said he was **** or out.

I'm saying, have the likes of Brook, Cleverley and Burns fought anyone WORLD CLASS at their weight? No. (possibly make an argument for Katsidis) so if they haven't, does that make, Brook, Cleverley and Burns world class?

Domestic level? Are you taking the ****?

Lightweight is not as strong as it was a few years ago. You talk about Miguel Vazquez, let's see who he's fought...

Ji-Hoon Kim and Lenny Zappa - neither of whom have what you'd describe as a quality win between them,
Ameth Diaz - the man who loses everytime he steps up in class.
Ricardo Dominguez - again lost everytime he's tried to push on to world level
Marlon Aguilar - who? Boxrec tells me he was at his best at FEATHERWEIGHT

That's all of Vazquez's title opponents, Murderers' Row ain't it?

    How about DeMarco?

Beat Linares who's beaten some over the hill guys and got a big reputation based on a flash style.
John Molina's been plugging away on the ESPN FNF level for a few years, had a good win over Hank Lundy but not much after that.
Miguel Roman - tough, honest fighter but not a lightweight and nowhere near world class.

Earlier in his career he fought some decent guys like Kid Diamond and Alfaro but are they names that really make you sit up and take notice?

Broner's got no form at lightweight but let's take a look at his super-featherweight run. A close (some would say dodgy) win over PDL and then stoppages over some random Argie, a coked up Eloy Perez and coming in overweight against Vicente Escobedo who's always threatened to break into world class but never actually managed it.

So these are the guys Burns has to fight to prove he's world class?

Don't play the "fanboys" card Craney. I don't think Burns has many on here.

No i got to admit what the original poster was saying to be honest. My views have changed and i feel a bit embarrised that I didn't back Ricky Burns. But when he fought Martinez i gave him no hope and same when he fought Katsidis. He proved me wrong. Then when he fought Mitchell I had faith but thought Mitchell would be too powerful but once agin he made me wrong. There is nothing wrong with admiting that you was wrong.

    At Lightweight?

Because we are talking about Lightweight. He has fought absolutely no one.

Tell me what the first fight is for Broner at Lightweight though?

His opponent trumps all 3 that Ricky has fought at the weight so far. Who are, Katsidis, Moses, Mitchell.

One more question, for all those saying Broner is nothing special and Burns "does" him, does Broner loose to De Marco then? :think

I tell you what, talking about the Lightweight division, its such a shame we lost Edwin Valero!!!!

To me? when I see Burns continually being underrated(by proper posters not ****s trying to get a rise out of Billy Nelson)

I think it has a lot to to with the modern day mentality of an unbeaten record being so important. that '0' is everything to many people, & the fact that not only does Ricky have 2 losses, but one was to Carl Johanesson?

A lot of 'modern' boxing fans just cant get thier heads around the concept that a fighter can lose to average opposition, & then blossom into a complete world class fighter.

Old skool fans know that an L doesnt mean **** in the grand scheme of things, but I have lost count how many times I have read in here comments like
"Burns world class? Dont make me laugh, he lost to Carl Johannesson FFS"

Its like theres a mental block, they just trawl a fighters record on boxrec, see the red L & make an instant judgement. They dont understand the concept of a fighter improving through being tested and being beaten on the long road to the top, they just see the L & thats that.

To me? ricky Burns gets underrated cos people are stuck on his early career losses, & cant move on. There are other issues, but thats one that I thought I would get off my chest.

The modern day obsession with the unbeaten record. Only those who have never lost on their way to the big fights are deemed worthy of being talked about in gushing terms.

If you know what I mean.

if your questioning ricky burns world class status at lightweight based on who he's faught, why the **** have you put broner in there as one of the guys he should face to make him world class. broner has faught no one at lightweight, broners big test is coming. broner has had 2 dodgy decisions on his record against fighters burns would prob beat easily. lets not forget burns has beat everybody since martinez without much problems, giving boxing lessons and destroying mitchell. i think he does need to step it up now and he will, give the guy time for **** sake, he's proved he's world class in the way he dealt with kats, moses and mitchell all 3 were world ranked, he just needs to go for the other belt holders now, get the unification fights and hopefully the ring belt he craves.
its quite simple really. if you win a world title and beat world ranked fighters, your generally listed as world class. [it doesnt matter what your opinions are] if you beat other belt holders you get tagged as the unified world champion and get a nice fancy ring belt. its not rocket science mate.
