mate! i read all your posts on this subject and i pretty much 100% agree with everything u said:thumbsup :thumbsup :thumbsup
Fernandez over Arguello is a good shout, though it was a Decision win for Fernandez in a non-title fight, whereas Tszyu was KO'd. Arguello had a MUCH greater resume and bounced back extremely well from it. Tszyu bounced back well, but his resume is nowhere near that of an Arguello. That's what you guys are missing.
This is only debated by bonified dumbasses and new boxing fans that don't know who he is:deal It appears theres an alarming number of dumbasses on here:yep
It's in fact the EXACT opposite, if you want to be extreme, because anyone who ranks him above Antonio Cervantes, Barney Ross, Nicolino Locche, Duilio Loi, Tony Canzoneri, etc are the ones who don't really know what his competition is. You could argue him above Ross and Canzoneri at this weight alone given the fact that they fought at other weights as well and were thus not as constant at 140, but even still, at 140, their resumes both eclipse Tszyu's.
first he wasn't a great fighter.the term "great" is overused on here.as for the ali comparison it's ridiculous.how could ali not fight in one weight class? ali also beat all the top heavyweight contenders over almost 20 years.
Not new to boxing at all... Tszyu is not an ATG. Period. To be considered an ATG, you need an ATG resume. Tszyu doesn't have that. And anyone who believes he'd beat Whitaker is an idiot. He wouldn't be an easy win for Sweet Pea, but he'd certainly be a win.
The guy had a chance at knocking anyone out, his timing and power are second to none. Whitaker might be favourite, but Tszyu never appeared worried by speed or skilled boxers over an entire career. You can't write him off against anyone. That's why he's so highly regarded.
I think people are unfair criticising Kostya for losing to Hatton and Vince Phillips. By all accounts, Phillips was a decent fighter when his head was on and he brought his A game, whilst Hatton style-wise would be the worst possible opponent for Tszyu - if you watch the fight you can see that the trademark right hand is nullified. In those terms, that is not to say that Hatton is better than Tszyu, infact I think the opposite, but feel that Hatton would win nine times out of ten, for Tszyu he is the man wearing a black cloak carrying a scythe. Whether or not he is an ATG is dependent on what you define one as - is it because of their style, best wins, record, or overall theoretical alltime ranking within their weight division - say top 20. In that case, he most certainly is.
Because of his loss to Hatton, Kostya falls just short of all-time great status. Kostya is however an all-time "near great", which is pretty high status.
