No, Hopkins beating better fighters than Calzaghe did is reason why Hopkins is rated over Joe. :nono

Depends what you think their best wins are :smoke

    For me, it's something like

    Floyd:
    Corrales
    Castillo
    Hatton
    Delahoya
    Cotto

    Hopkins:
    Trinidad
    Pavlik
    Tarver
    Wright
    Pascal

    Pacquiao
    Barrera
    Cotto
    Hatton
    Marquez
Morales (debateable as he was clearly past it when Pac won the rematch)

Thoughts? The fact that Hopkins was a decided underdog in almost every one of his wins means a lot for his ranking.

Turbo, the reason why he was underdog against those champs bc he was not dominant. People were writing him off after his embrassing defeats against Taylor where he was throwing 20 punches a round.

  5. Hey. I just want to point out that you put a lot of emphasize in weight jumping. But that's not really fair in ranking ATG'S because a huge amount of them are not able to start out at the very low weights like Floyd and Pacquaio did.

Not to mention all the great heavyweights and LHW's. You can't really say 'Oh Floyd and Pac' jump 5 and 8 weight classes or whatever number and hence they are greater than Hopkins. I'm not saying they are not greater than Hopkins, I'm just saying that should not be one of the criteria in measuring greatness. Since a lot of fighters started out at higher weights, so obviously they can not 'jump as many division's as the lower weight guys.

Those defeats weren't embarassing? Hell a lot of people think he won those fights. That's a whole different topic altogether though.

  7. I won't call those defeats embarrassing. That's a bit over an over exaggeration. He clearly won the 2nd half of both fights and the reason the decisions were given to Taylor was because it was perceived to be very close and HBO wanted a cash cow.

Let's just say this. Hopkins-Taylor were just as close as Floyd-Castillo.

I'm not saying is the only critria. weight jumping is just another angle of critrita as for number of defenses.

Those losses cause Bhop's stock to drop. Lost his titles, his p4p ranking, and became an underdog. He was even dogged against Winky who was 2.5 to 1 favorite.

Trinidad looks like the freshest quality win on the list (sound familiar?). Pacquiao makes it close with his win over Barrera...the Pavlik win was also more solid than a lot of either one's wins, considering they had the youth advantage. I think I'd switchout the JMM win (since I can't call those wins, despite his great performance in the rematch) and maybe add Taylor for BHop; I scored both fights for Hopkins and lots of people thought he won at least one of them.

I could actually make a cool points-system breakdown comparing each tier. Seems silly but it's really just isolating their best accomplishments against each other and adding up the weight.

I had Bhop beat Joe here.

I'm not trying to put down Bhop as if his resume is not good. In terms of ATG rankings between those three, he is number 3. I think Floyd and Manny got more big wins with more names, They are more dominant against their rivals. Pac's ability to carry his power and speed with him to Floyd's 16 year reign Longetivity without skipping a beat. Bhop has great wins but he have struggled early, mid and late in his career against his rivals.

He won his IBF strap when he beat Mercado in their rematch, when he beat Holmes he unified the WBC when he beat Trinidad he unified the WBA and won the vacant ring title and when he beat Oscar he became undisputed champion (in it's purest form) when he picked up the WBO title.

No wonder you hate Hopkins so much, you know **** all about him :lol::patsch

These are, in my opinion, the top 3 fighters of the era (well, depends on the technicalities of the term "era"). Jones is #4, to me.
