Based on this bull**** story I've seen him tip Ayala over everyone from Tommy Hearns, Duran, Gene Fullmer and Gerald ****ing McClellan:rofl

If it is bull**** the thud of the bottom falling out of LAXPDX's world will register on the Richter scale.

this is what is great about the modern age. We can get the answers quick, although how many years ago was this? 35? His memory might not be so clear about a sparring match, and if he was beaten up he might not want to recall it, but good going . I want to hear what he says also.

    Can't you just see it.

June 1977, Pipino Cuevas and his Manager Lupe Sanchez sitting around having
a discussion about traveling to San Antonio, Texas - to have a sparring session
    with some 14 1/2 year-old.

Pipino, telling his father that he has to leave the '3' Butcher Shops in Mexico City
to run himself, so he can go to San Antonio to spar, because there is not one
150 lb. fighter to get in the ring with him, in all of Mexico.

    Sounds believable.

Lord Tywin has been caught being an outright clod on this very subject on a previous thread.

Let's review his previous position, since I have to do his thinking and arguing for him recently.

Pipino Cuevas, Welterweight champion, fighting in front of sellout crowds in red hot Los Angeles, supposedly "can't afford" adequate 147 lb sparring partners or "can't find" adequate sparring partners in boxing hotbed Los Angeles deep into his training camp for top contender Clyde Gray. So he and his manager pack their overnight bags and go barnstorming around the country literally DAYS before a sold out title defense trying DESPERATELY to find a good sparring partner. Somehow they end up in San Antonio, but can't find any good sparring partners there either and Cuevas- perhaps the hottest draw in boxing- has to scrape the bottom of the barrel and spar with a pudgy 14 year old. He gets his ass whipped. Goes back to Los Angeles with his tail between his legs and then completely intmidates Gray- who was life and death with HOF'r Jose Napoles- and damn near kills him.

Did I fairly represent Lord Tywin's logic, Senor Pepe?

I always doubted the story. Anyway, sparring sessions are not real boxing matches. Ayala was strong and had a great future, but he just never fought anyone, which is sad because regardless of anything else fighting Hagler, or THomas HEarns or Leonard or Roberto or Wilfred. would have been interesting.

That is not even remotely what I said, as you well know. My initial argument, which stands, is that simply having no film of the sparring match does not mean it never happened.

As Ive said several times: I dont know if it happened, and I dont care. I think both fighters are incredibly overrated, especially Ayala.

None of this changes the fact that now Pepe/Duce has supplemented his argument with direct quotes from Ayala, paraphased articles by two seperate reporters, and a quote from Cuevas, yet refuses to back those up by simply citing his sources.

Its very simple. If Im going to quote someone and someone calls me out on it Ill go get the source and cite it for them. Pepe cant or wont. In light of the fact that he has done this before only to be caught lying and fabricating those quotes, his credibility with me is zero. If you give it more weight fine, you are more forgiving person than me.

Why would Jose 'Pipino' Cuevas go anywhere to look for sparring partners,
    when Welterweights,

Jose Luis Baltazar, Jose Baquedano, Jose Fiqueroa and Jose Palacios were all stable-mates of Pipino Cuevas.

In mid-1977, each one those sparring partners would have destroyed 14 1/2 year-old
    Tony Ayala Jr.

What in the world are you still babbling about, Tywin?

When confronted with the complete implausability of the whole Ayala-Cuevas sparring session, using dates and facts quoted directly from Ayala Sr himself, you refused to admit obvious realities that even Corky The ****** could grasp and came up with some nonsense about Pepe and I needing "proof" that it DIDN'T happen. Brilliant.

What "sources" does Pepe need? A video statement from Ayala Jr admitting it was a made up story? Travel records showing Cuevas was in L.A on that date training for his title defense? How about a 24 hour security cam from the gym in question pointed directly at the ring for the entire day in question? I would suggest that your obsession with Pepe would cause you to discount even those artifacts and state that only a personal trip back in Dr. Evil's Time Machine to San Antonio circa 1977 to personally investigate yourself would satisfy you of the validity of his case.

Every piece of possible evidence and logical deduction says the sparring session didn't happen when, where, and how Ayala Sr. said it did. Case Closed.

    That is not the issue.

The issue is that you have now quoted and paraphrased four very specific sources but you wont cite them or give any details on them.

Tiptoe around the question all you like but it remains and without a definitive answer we can all assume you made those sources up just like you did your Ali "interview"

    Ecto 55,

Tough getting any behind the door scene stuff on Jimmy Young.

Jimmy was a 'Mystery Man', as he came and went like the wind.
