I would just like to point out that anyone's resume throughout time can look like **** when you list the fighters that they would have ideally fought to be held in higher regard.

There are a lot of opponents that Robinson could have fought at various times that he didn't which would have improved his resume. But he's still the GOAT.

Jack Dempsey ducked the #1 contender Harry Wills for something like his ENTIRE 5+ year reign as HW champ, and he himself only fought once a year as champ. I still rank him in my top 5 HW's of all time.

You don't judge by what could have been. It is irrelevant, to me, and quite clearly should be irrelevant to anyone when dissecting what they actually accomplished. It's worthy of a mention on some accounts, but once again, if you hold particular things against Floyd or Pacquiao, then hold those same things against fighters of the past. And yes, the critisisms leveled at Floyd and Pacquiao apply to some degree to every great fighter in history.

Very well said. I think trying to compile is list of ATG's is pointless unless one does A LOT (a ****IN LOT!!!) of homework i.e. watching as many fights as possible, reading and learning the sport, understanding what you read and not just dismissing an opinion because they said something bad about a personal fave. I don't do All Time Lists because I can admit, I don't know too much pre 70's eras. And I don't get into P4P lists because, quite frankly, there's no sense or reason to. But, this was a top notch post. :good

  4. He never said that.
    He doesn't love that
He has had 3 catchweight fights, Marquez requested catchweight when the fought for a third time, Pacquiao agreed. Against Cotto he was stepping up 3 weights in about 18 months. He had not grown fully into a welter and not even a light-welter as yet. Roach was concerned he would be giving away huge amounts in the ring against champion in his first real outing their. Cotto only came down a lb from his previous weigh in, Pacquiao went up by much more and gave away a huge amount int the ring.

Marg was a career welter and had no problem at all at making 150lbs and still had a 17lbs weight advantage in the ring. Pacquiao still couldn't get pass the welterweight limit and weighed in at 144lbs.

Yes he is. Although he has avoided lots of tough tough fights to keep that 0 on his record, he still is a master boxer.

  6. Dempsey tried to get the Wills fight, but it didn't happen SRR probably didn't want nothing to do with Burley.

But these were single fight, the sheer number of Floyd duckees is what is staggering and he is still doing it now.

And i'm not being a revisionist, I was calling for these fights at the time.

If his career ended today, he'd be remembered from time to time in the classic section of ESB as one of the best defensive specialist of all time. We'd see his name in a lot of top 130-135 lbs lists. So, he'd be known by most boxing aficionados but not much by the general public because of his lack of a signature fight.

To make boxing history, you need skills and a good story. Floyd's got one, but lacks the other.

LOL.....Pacquiao and Mayweather have proven time and time again that they have little interest in proving their superiority over each other, by you know, actually fighting each other....but their fans are hell-bent on proving that "their" guy is better than the "other" guy.

If only the fighters themselves cared as much as their fans about showing who was better.

He doesn't love catchweight but yet he ask for them. hmm i wonder why?

  10. As Pacquiao only recently said, "I can't make him fight me"

Vitali Klitschko will never be forgiven for quitting on his stool from injury.

Robinson retired on his stool because he wasn't in condition to handle 15 rounds of the same heat which his opponent was exposed to. His 13 round corner retirement loss against Maxim is sometimes viewed as one of the best accomplishments in boxing.

    ---

And please don't ever say that Dempsey tried to make a Wills fight. Or a McVea fight. Or a Jeannette fight.

  13. Vitali made amends in the Lewis fight how he wanted to continue.

That was a brutal fight against Maxim in the blistering heat, and he was ahead on the cards, I believe.

If they would have only been one or two fights that didn't happen for Floyd I would say OK but there is a more than one or two and the shameful way he has ducked Pacquiao just put it over the edge for me.

Back in 2009 after the Cotto fight and the talk was about Pacquiao I said Floyd will find any excuse he can to not make this fight happen.

And I was damn right about it, and I knew this from how Floyd behaved in the past.

  14. He did, there is a great article about it, an old news paper clipping, very difficult for me to find though.

Of course Pac would do that.
He hand picked Marquez in 2011 and got outboxed
    handpicked unranked Margarito
dodged Mosley in 2009 and waited for 2 years until he was shot
just fought unranked Bradley at 147. :tired

    :hi:
