Is it wrong that I just don't get Ricky Burns?.

I know Dunky, and I'll freely admit that if Ricky was from say,Bristol,I would probably only have paid attention after Katsidis. But I have to admit,I couldn't help feeling a bit shocked at the positivity towards Ricky after the Mitchell fight.

I met him when he used to train at Morrison's when he was kind of drifting, and I admit when I bet on him to beat Martinez,it was more through blind optimism rather than a gut feeling he could do it.
My only real problem is that some idiots infer that we're claiming Ricky will be a first ballot HOF'r.
I just see him as a great guy first, superb boxer second and being along for the journey as a fan has been a very positive experience so far.:good

Using your criteria Broner is nothing but domestic level as well. Do you consider Broner a merely domestic level fighter?

Summarized that up pretty well Dunky, i was actually thinking about this sort of behaviour earlier. One loss on a fighters record and all of a sudden he's finished. It's quite silly when you think about it. Such a tough sport and if someone has an off night for instance and takes a points loss or gets caught by a lucky punch its almost everything they have done before gets forgotten about and they are declared as being washed up or a bum who was always shite.

Personally i take the likes of Amir Khan and see he has a couple of losses now, but do i think he's washed up? no way, he will win a world title again.

And lets remember Burns lost to a very decent Alex Arthur at the time Burns was just a boy. Carl Johanneson wasn't too shabby a fighter either if my memory isn't mistaken.

If it is actually you Billy and not some ***** with nothing better to do then:

Nothing against you or your fighter. I've actually defended and praised Ricky enough times, the improvement has been sensational. DO not listen to what a few dickheads on here tell you about me, on about, "I'm always giving British fighters a kicking" AM I ****! They just wanna put themselves on pedestals by doing it and making themselves look like angels. I'm firm but fair.

You just chose to pluck that post and ignore all the positive ones Bill, I've talked about Ricky Burns. He's a top bloke with a top trainer and CAN go places, but W-arren isn't making the fights. That's no fault of fighter or trainer, so don't have a go at the fans. We want the very best for you and your fighter(s)

But you can't tell me Liam Walsh is the fight that moves Ricky forward, the two you were laughing at me for saying, are better fights.

Liam is ranked 59th Bill. :good

Maybe its a character thing? Nice humble guys dont always get the 'ole juices flowing as it were, mixed with a boxing style that is more of a purist pursuit than your average blood & guts fan?

Or its cos you need to see him in a defining fight... he beat martinez, therefore the next logical step is a biggie. After Martinez, the likes of Katsidis, Moses & Mitchell are great scalps, but not quite the 'big one' that should follow a classic like Burns-Martinez.

Thats the way I feel btw, I love watching Ricky get some big names on his record, but hes in the mix for that career defining fight, & every time it isnt made? Its an anti-climax.

Me? as a scottish boxing fan Im prepared to wait until next year, the Walsh fight is a keep busy affair, & a nice scalp to have on his resume. However, if ****** cant deliver a Broner fight after? Its a massive letdown.

Im no boxing fan shrink, but hopefully I opened your mind to why you might have let Burns slip under your radar?

Or it could be as simple as- hes a jock, I couldnt really give a flying **** about him! Now wheres the latest Frochy interview on Griffs videos:D

Maybe your right, maybe he is to unforgettable. Or perhaps part of the problem might be his opponents personalities. No-one has yet brought out the fire in Burns. I’m not an expert on Martinez or Moses, but they seemed like pretty decent guys. Katsides is top class & Mitchell was extremely respectful throughout the build-up.

Every fighter has someone, a foe somewhere. Burns perhaps is just to nice.
