The post klitschko era will be stronger....

I don't think the Heavyweight division will be stronger, however they will be on more of a level playing field

 

The potential is there but that's all we have at the moment. Most of these guys have not proven themselves to be genuine contenders yet. Many of them may very well get exposed when they step up. Yes the division is pretty weak at the moment and I can understand people looking to the future for the hope of a stronger division as the current division outside of the top 2 fighters is uninspiring.

The hype around some of these prospects is ludicrous. I can't believe people are ranking Price in the top 10 already when he's beaten nobody of note.

People have short memories. The Wilder, Price and Fury fanatics don't seem to realize that Dimitrenko looked on their level facing the same type of competition a few years ago. Look what happened the two times he stepped up against genuine top 10 fighters.

 

People tend to rate struggle higher than total domination.

Exactly. Dimitrenko was hailed as an "exceptional talent", "developing quicker than Wladimir Klitschko" etc. etc. He was hyped up beyond belief.

He impressively stopped Olympic bronze medal winner Luan Krasniqi inside 3 rounds in a domestic matchup and was supposed to be the heir to the throne of the K brothers. And was followed was a steady decline when he couldn't handle top 10 guys like Chambers and Pulev.

We will only know what good guys like Price and Fury are once they face tough top 10 opposition and get properly tested.

First we have to see how things develop. I haven't seen anyone yet who's even close to the Klitschko's level at the moment, but maybe some will develop into serious players in the future.
To now call upon Price and Wilder (who haven't even been tested properly) for bombing out old and weak former wba challengers like Audley and Beck as replacements for the brothers is laughable. They just did what they were supposed to under the circumstances, and what at least 20 others would have done to them.

We have to wait and see what we get. But I already know that when a American or Brit comes out on top (no matter how flawed they are) the respected nation's fans will say it's a stronger era.

 

how can the best be B-Level??? It doesn't make any sense at all. That is the definition of Elite, world class, A-Class Fighters. The best.

 

It will be more interesting, more exciting, but I don't think it will be stronger. I hope it is, though.

 

What I don't understand is why people think a sport becomes more exciting when a dominating athlete retires.

1. Did chess become more interesting when Gary Kasparov retired, after dominating the sport for 15 years?
2. Will swimming become more exciting when Michael Phelbs retires?
3. What about tennis, did it become more interested when Pete Sampras retired after decimating his opposition for a good 4 years?

Why is it only in boxing that people think when a dominating champion retires that all of a sudden the division will become more exciting?

 

This is a great post. It's been said a billion times but no-one in that list should even be near the top ten, let alone allowed to challenge for titles (emphasis on OLD Rahman) However, you also forgot Eddie Chambers and Arreola. As a Brit I'm looking forward to what may well be a period of British dominance of the HW division that unlike when Lewis ruled will be a few good looking prospects such as Price (I admit I'm on the band wagon having seen him fight) Fury who looks good, Chisora will make a good gatekeeper and Haye who many people don't like still has the talent to mix it with the best although he is aging a bit now. You also mention Pulev who looks good and Wilder who I suspect is packing some serious glass and is a glorified bum and will never step up. Malik scott looks like more of prospect than Wilder and that's saying something.

The era will be better because it will be fairer and more entertaining. However, I view the term stronger by looking at the best and Wlad and Vit will rank high on the HW ATG ranking probably than any of these up and coming fighters. They would probably rule the next HW division as well. So despite more enjoyable fights coming up I hope it doesn't lead to some bum (i.e. Wilder) getting a belt and defending it.










Also while we're talking about up and coming British fighters, Freddie Flintoff anyone?
