And you seem to sway away from fighters with aesthetic styles? I like Norris, imo he has one of the all time best offence in boxing when he is able to put it together. You disagree with my choices of Hagler and Taylor?
Not really, Chang and Jones are very aesthetically pleasing. I can't disagree with you, it's your opinion. But Taylor wouldn't be one of mine, though he'd certainly rank high in an 'impressive handspeed' conversation :good
Cool, i actually didn't see your picks, can't disagree with RJJ and Duran for sure, i haven't had the opportunity to watch Chang's fights though, i would have to look up footage of him.
Ringside only: Ray Robinson as a WELTERWEIGHT =UNO 1 Willie Pep in his prime 4 years before his near fatal plane crash=uncanny Ike Williams when uncuffed a murderous hitter TV or film Joe Louis=greatest pure puncher ever and greatest finisher Ezzard Charles+ as a lightheavyweight /had EVERYTHING and a humble guy Ray Leonard= tremendous all around speed and talent Roy Jones= fantastic talent on tv but untested against great fighters Roberto Duran= as a lightweight in a mediocre division, but a minuature Dempsey Tommy Hearns= great WW with a laser right hand Alexis Arguello= best featherweight since Willie Pep and a GREAT human being
Probably Robinson. He puts it all together. Moves, stalks, punches beautifully, great jab, the instincts... Master of all the trades. Rare gem. In my lifetime, probably either Sugar Ray Leonard, for the same reason as Robinson, or Mike McCallum. Roy Jones is the most formidable fighter I've seen live.
Personally I never thought of Chang as an aesthetically pleasing fighter. Your love for asian midgets blinds you, Flea.
He's very fun to watch and quick (in his prime) He certainly catches the eye. Obviously later in his career he relied more on his Ward-esque (or is that Hattin-esque) limpet shtick but still, I wouldn't put him in the Pender stinker camp.
From what we have of him I'd say he isn't in the 'pioneer' mould but mire an absolute genius As per him not being shouted out thus far; too little footage and even Burt ain't that old
I didn't mention Benny Leonard cause we saw just his one bout with the great southpaw Lew Tendler on film, but Benny Leonard was at least on a par with WW Ray Robinson...For 7 years he outclassed the greatest array of lightweight contenders ever, without getting his hair mussed up ONCE, except for Leo Johnson of Harlem who as they were shaking hands before the bout, reached over and scattered Leonard's hair...Bad Move...Leonard flattened him 2 minutes into the 1st round... FM, what doya mean I'm not "that old " ? Why I saw my first bout when David slew Goliath, at the Colisseum...
