Why do fighters nod their head when they get stunned?

It obviously shows that they were hit with a good shot so I don't see why boxers do that. Of course, you can say it's a natural instinct.

 

I think it is to show that "OK, you hit me good, but not good enough so that you have to assault me know". In other words: you hit me, please don't follow up

 

its more like "You got me good, Il give you that one"

That only reassures the opponent that he landed a good shot. If a boxer lands a hard thudding blow to his opponent, the opponent should act as if nothing happened, or fight back harder even if he risks getting caught.

Nodding your head is basically giving your opponent a reason to follow up on his offense while you are hurt.

 

Fighter harder is an obvious sign that you're hurt. It says you got me good, so I'm gonna try to hurt you

 

Fighters Nod their head thinking, ''Ok, good hit. That hurts but I don't want to show you''.

 

E G O..... think everyone who is competitive and someone got the best of them have had that type of moment...it just makes you focus and go harder.

it definately happens more so to a good punch to the head rather than a body shot, so yes it is often a knee jerk reaction. And it is a reaction saying yeah you got me good, which does not have to be a negative as they are still standing and took a good shot from the opponenet.
Somethig that really pisses me off and a good friend of mine did it in the Amateurs a lot was raise their hand when they thought they landed a good shot.. infuriating

 

As others have said, often it's an acknowledgement of a good shot. it's also used to try and mask them being hurt/stunned from it. Smiling back or nodding is their way of trying to show they weren't hurt or bothered by it.

 

It's to help the compubox people

 

Does it not also acknowlege that you took a good shot? - good shot but I took it.
