I agree Canelo resume is weak.....he is in the same bracket as Lara, Kirkland, Trout, K9 etc etc

He should beat one or two of them first imho before he gets to Cotto, Martinez or Mayweather.

I feel he is going to get schooled if he fights one of them.....

Plus I think the fight with Lopez (while not his fault) wasn't good for the fans or for his preparation personally.

It is acts like this that are destroying the sport...instead of consistant fighting, being active against QUALITY opponants in HIS OWN DIVISION. He waits for Cinco de Mayo...Mayweather (a WW) Cotto or Martinez (or so he says)...Guys like Canelo don't love the sport...and people like you support this nonsense...

    Do you blame him?

He's probably front and center on Floyd Mayweathers list of viable opponents. (It's called Cinco De Mayweather for a reason in boxing circles).

Big money for him and Mayweather.

Exactly they spend so much time avoiding each other looking for big money fights that they actually hurt their own chances but at least Lara step up against Williams and is fighting Vanes and Kirkland with the big win against Angulo(although I think if your a boxer-puncher with decent power and a decent chin you can have a pretty easy time with Kirkland)

Thing is Mayweather makes big money against who ever he decides to fight whenever he decides to fight and for a reason while Canelo is looking for a big payday and wont even fight the top guys in his own division

Didn't Kirkland agree to fight Canelo but then pull out saying he wants more money?

But Alvarez has looked good in his fights up to now and wasn't given gift decisions earlier in his career and struggled against poor fighters unlike Chavez Jr.

I honestly think this kid is special.

In his last fight, he wanted P-Williams, Kirkland etc and they didn't happen for whatever reasons. I was shocked that they were going to in the first place. I thought Canelo would be deeply protected but this kid, at the friggin' age he's at, is so strong, so big and pretty well experienced.

He may have fought a blown up LW in his last fight, but still, Lopez took everything Ortiz threw at him and Ortiz is no feather fisted dude. Canelo beat him with ease.

    Definitely a future P4P'er.

He looks good because he is fighting smaller men. Who has Canelo fought from the 154lbs? Now who had Chavez Jr fought from MW? The "was planning to fight" don't count because in that case Jr "is planning" to fight Ward but we can't count it since it hasn't happened.

Yes. People like to forget this. Canelo tried to fight PW, Kirkland, Ortiz and then just settled for Lopez as he beat Ortiz.

Those are 3 solid fighters he was trying to get in the ring but it just did not work out.
