He's a marvellous fighter, he just doesn't have a style friendly to casual fans, nor does he have a wwf style 'persona' to create oppertunities for himself with his mouth He needs to be put in with a name I would advise going after the belts Donaire has in order to become mandatory, force him to fight or vacate Even Donaire himself isn't a huge name (yet)
Step 1: Wait until time travel and mass mind control techniques are developed. Step 2: Get a time machine, whatever devices are necessary for mass mind control, and go back to the 2010s. Step 3: Brainwash the world into thinking that Rigondeaux is actually Puerto Rican, not Cuban. Step 4: Basically have him copy Felix Trinidad's habits of getting Puerto Rico into every sentence, but also make him be more of a dick. Step 5: Have him fight 100% Mexican fighters, trash talking all of them relentlessly en route to a title shot. Step 6: Continue to defend the belt against Mexican fighters. Step 7: Profit. Rigondeaux is highly skilled, but unfortunately for him he has the personality and charisma of a head of lettuce, hails from a country that doesn't produce large numbers of PPV-buying boxing fans, and doesn't have a casual fan-friendly style. All of these things together mean he is extremely difficult to promote.
Listen I'm talking from a casuals fan perspective said I like & highly respect rigo & all cubans but most don't appreciate him.I've seen/studied more film of his than you probably ever have I enjoy his fights even if others don't but like I said most obviously don't.So stop assuming **** & you read before you reply.
That is fine. Don't generalize all casual boxing fans though, because when I watch boxing with people who are casual fans, there are those of them who also appreciate boxing ability and not just unskilled brawling. Many of you wrongly lump all casual fans as these people who only an unkilled brawl. As far as you viewing more of Rigondeaux's fights, maybe maybe not. As far as most not enjoying Rigondeaux's style, again, you assume a whole hell of a lot, and there is nothing to back up your statement. Statements like that are bull**** that comes out on boxing forums, and HBO commentary i.e. Lampley or Kellerman pushing the HBO line, this boxer doesn't have a real fan friendly style, the casual boxing fan doesn't like it. ****, that, until one of you or them conduct a scientifically valid survey of a wide cross section of boxing fans, those type of statement don't have any merit. It is pure opinion. There are many boxing fans casual and hardcore who don't fault a boxer for actually having defensive techniques and the ability to not get hit. I could see if he was Paulie Malignaggi in there. This guy has one punch KO power though, and an 80% stoppage ratio, as well as the notoriety of putting every opponent on the canvas. The argument that he isn't a fan friendly fighter is pure bull****.
Sadly I have to agree and it's very true They may not fault them but they won't find them a draw This has been my experience my entire life trying to get people to watch certain fights and fighters, even if their response is 'he's good, but he's not exciting' I mean ****, the guy is practically unknown even now inside boxing
Rigo needs to play a villian in boxing to promote himself. Ala Mayweather. He'll have to do it through his Spanish tongue though, so a lot will be lost in translation.
He did give that interview where he called Donaire and Nishioka cocksuckers, but the translator refused to say it in English.
One of these two: 1. Have him bleach his hair like Quartey and/or 2. Nickname him "Goofi" and have him walk to the ring holding children by the hand
He's one of my favorite fighters, and would like to see him a little more active. He doesn't have much time left in the sport, and doesn't really sustain much damage so he could fight more often. Just keep taking out fighters and eventually he will get a some decent opponent. Go to the Philippines and challenge Donaire over there. In a modern day thrilla in Manila.
something like..."Get a ring side seat, be able to say you saw Rigo get knocked out, close and personal."
