C'mon, give Freddie Roach a break. He's not ******ed in any way, but that Parkinson's has made it increasingly difficult to understand him since he can't seem to form cognitive sentences any more. Tyson has come a long way with his persona being that of a more humble, appreciative guy than he was when he was young and full of himself, but I couldn't listen to him for extended periods of time. Atlas killed the Olympic boxing for me. He just doesn't shut up until he needs to breath and fills the air with verbal diarrhea. If he became part of the announcing team, I'd have to watch the fights with the volume off. I think Paulie did a great job when they had him at ringside several weeks ago. He's got the boxer's insight, speaks clearly and concisely although a tad fast at times, and brings a freshness to the table that I find entertaining. Roy Jones, to me, has a bit of "marbles in the mouth" delivery but there is no denying he's been there, done that. But if he keeps on fighting and getting KO'd, who knows how long he will be able to relay his thoughts clearly. If I had to vote today, I'd say Paulie. **** Larry Merchant. That guy is as irritating to me as a splinter under the fingernails.
I really like Jones Jr as a commentator, generally keeps his head, fairly good insights, though he does sometimes stumble over his words, but then when it's a sport like boxing because anything could happen any second elucidating what has just gone before while keeping an eye on what is happening must at times be quite difficult. A return for SRL or Big George anyone?
Teddy Atlas? I actually like his personality but as a commentator on HBO he would not be so great. He is better on smaller cards.
No one, Steward will always be there in spirit. Damn, Im gonna miss seeing Steward in every HBO Boxing fights. I was just watching the Ortiz vs Berto fight and every time I hear his voice commentating, just felt very sad today. :-( HBO commentating won't be the same. RIP Manny Steward. Awhile back Kevin Kelly did commentating for Friday Night Fights. He was excellent. Sounded like he'd been doing commentating his entire life.
I didn't find him to be awesome at all. Nearly every time he was asked a question and given a chance to drop some real boxing knowledge, he'd just respond with "definitely". He did have an odd funny moment here and there, but overall I thought he sucked as a commentator.
Should be someone who could need the position. I'd not have the slightest problems with a guy like Chris Byrd.
Are people blind or something??? It's Jones Jr. Jones HAS been putting in work on HBO for a long time now + he has already filled in for Emmanuel. What's up with the auditions??? But If I can audition someone... Antonio Tarver.
