Leonard Ellerbe should be a replacement @ HBO, I could see him being very articulate.

It would be a great cause and it would benefit boxing as a whole. I'm sure I'm not the only one who would love to hear Ellerbe commentate.

Saying 'Haters gon hate!' doesn't win an argument.

Yes, Ellerbee has been in the game, in a very narrowly focused way for a long time. Now, if HBO wanted to interview someone about promoting a fighter (and to a lesser degree the fights themselves) then Ellerbee might be your man. If HBO wanted to talk about marketing a successful athlete, then sure.

But, if HBO wants someone to break down a fight, to give us fans an inside angle on what a fighter might do, is doing, or will do, then no, Ellerbee ain't your guy.

Ask yourself what you'd honestly like to hear during a fight: a discussion about strategy from a trainer/former fighter who knows what the game entails from inside the ring to outside? Or a discussion on marketing and promotional techniques from a guy who work primarily as a CEO / assistant?

So while it's true that LE is more qualified to be an HBO commentator then myself, there are many more deserving people out there for the job. I don't know if you're a troll or not, I assume probably not, it just sounds like a terrible idea to me.

? How did I win the argument with Haters gonna hate, I won it with indisputable facts

Leonards been in the game for 16-17 years in Floyd's corner, he's the second assistant to Floyd Mayweather Jr and gives him sound advice in fights, he was the head trainer when Roger was away, he's a sound businessman, he has shitloads of capital, he helps Floyd with his training regiment which means he's very familiar with professional training.

16 years of being around boxing professionals, I'm sure he's very knowledgable about the fight game even if he hasn't put on a pair of gloves in his life. Merchant has never put on a pair of gloves and he's a commentator. Leonard would do 10x the job he does.

  8. I find this thread very disrespectful to Manny.

How the **** so? I stated that Manny can never be replaced as a coach, commentator, legendary ambassador for the sport. If there was an ATG list for being a boxing coach, he'd be top 3.

I'm just saying, Leonard is a very suitable man to take his position now that Manny's not with his anymore. I'm talking out of a business standpoint for HBO, Leonard is their man if they want to get a good commentator with great boxing knowledge.

When have you ever seen leonard elerbee break down a fight that had nothing to do with Floyd Mayweather?Thats what I'm saying."People love to hate on a successful black man with money".Please.Nobody's hating. The man has shown no knowledge of breaking down fights.Plus it would feel awkward for Jim Lampley and Larry Merchant because Ellerbee is affiliated with Floyd Mayweather and he is known to have a rocky relationship with them.

I've seen interviews of him talking about Martinez. He has great knowledge of other fighters as well as Floyd. I'm sure his professionalism will kick in if he ever gets this opportunity. The rocky relationship with Jim/Larry would diminish and they would work together well,.

Ellerbe is so well spoken, so knowledgeable, has so much experience.

I think both Leonards would do a good job, I can't really say if Ray would do a better job than Ellerbde. It's a toss up.

Like I said: You can't win an argument with 'Haters gon hate!'.

But you also didn't win the argument with 'facts' either.

No one is saying that you need to lace up a pair of gloves to do commentary. You're correct, Merchant never boxed / trained fighters. However, Merchant is not there in the expert commentary department as he is more of a color commentator.

The expert commentator is almost always a former athlete or renowned trainer. Not a guy who has a spent a long time in the game and once, for a while, you know, helped train a fighter. Not a guy who once, you know, sort of helps plan a fighters workouts. Not a guy who once sort of, you know, gave advice in a corner.

If you think that LE could do a better job then Merchant, then that's your thing, but understand that Merchant isn't in the same job capacity as the Steward was.

If you're going to replace Steward it damn well better be with someone that knows more about what it takes to be in that ring then a 2nd assistant / CEO, who once helped to train someone when the primary wasn't there (even if it is to the best fighter in the world).
