Running a profitable gym and running a gym producing actual fighters is two different things.

I doubt most or any of the gyms you see are producing competitors even on an amateur level.

I concur with this post. As someone who was an NCAA qualifier in wrestling, training with world champs and contenders in MMA, competing in jui jitsui, Muay Thai, and now doing amateur boxing, if you like to fight, you like it all.

Hell I'd even like to learn war combat, shooting, stabbing, ninjitsu, sword fighting.

Yeah MMA gyms are screwing the pooch on this one. They charge 100+ a month and 50+ for personal sessions. They are mostly attracting office workers who want to look good.

The Wild Card and other boxing gyms charge $25 and the hope for young poor kids to make some money.

    Which is gonna produce competitors?

    MMA gyms will catch on.

if you live in the suburbs or middle of nowhere state then yeah there is probably way more MMA gyms ( they do prosper in hick areas of the US, scamming young dumbass kids $250 a month to "train UFC") but cities that produce top boxers have 100's of boxing gyms. There is a boxing gym at every corner in philly alone.

Yeah every country wishes their boxing was dying like the US and Mexico, considering they're 1 and 2 with the most top ten fighters overall. :patsch

Young fellas.....boxing has been dying for 30 years. I've never seen the sport in such a condition. Guess what? It's not going to get better. Too many champions, too many lousy fighters.

This, boxing is on a severe comeback trail right now in the U.S. and will always be doing fine in Mexico. You picked a really weird time to start a boxing is dying topic, because the sport has really made a resurgence on cable and network TV.

boxing in mexico is thriving, new boxing gyms are popping everywhere, many people started training becoming amateurs and turning pro, and many for self defense

Boxing actually made a huge comeback 5-6 years ago in Mexico by coming back to network TV (Televisa and Azteca).

Boxing pulls absurd TV ratings. MMA is not popular in Mexico, not at all.

USA is bad in some areas but thriving. And bozing is huge in Mexico. Packed arenas every week for multiple fight cards. Could be the 2nd most popular sport there behind Soccer. :-(
