I think Hatton had a chance at winning if it wasn't for Cortez, most people just think I'm crazy though.

    lol

i don't see hatton winning the fight, but i don't see a huge gap between the two

mayweathers chin would win him the fight

the actual fight was ruined by constant breaks

Maybe not winning, but I think he could have avoided the KO.... maybe.

I agree with that. Hatton wouldn't have won anyway I don't think, Mayweather was (and is still) just too good. However, there is no denying the fact that Cortez ruined the fight as a spectacle for fans with his appalling refereeing.

Every time the fight went in close he jumped in immediately and gave Mayweather the distance he needed to pick Hatton with his punches. Had they been allowed to just fight it out then it would have been FAR more entertaining.

Cortez was just a very bad ref in my opinion, I can't believe his was given so many big fights in his career when time after time he was criticised by fans and pundits for his stupid decisions.

    I'm glad he's retired.

People forget the breaking wasn't just the big issue it was Mayweather's use of the forearms to blind Hatton and ruff him up.

It was one law for one, and another for the other. But Hatton got away with a lot over the years himself and it bit him back on his biggest night. I think he'd of got to points if the point wasn't deducted. He went into meltdown and lost the plot bigtime!..

He was getting peppered like a steak..

Steve Smoger would have done a much better job. Hatton would still have gotten licked but it would have been more fun to watch definitely.

I watched the fight again recently, hadn't seen it in ages but decided to have another look at it when I had nothing else to do. I remembered Hatton losing his way after the point deduction but I couldn't believe just how pivotal a moment it was, he completely fell apart. He'd have been soundly beaten that night regardless of who the referee was though, no doubt about that. He may have come out with a little bit more credit with another ref but no more than that IMO.

    :good Agreed.

I think he knew he was already losing by a few, staring at defeat for first time in his profressional career i think he imploded. Everything from frustration to fear of losing caused that decision IMO.

The thing about that night was there was doubts if PBF could fight inside or take a punch. We now know he can and he would have pasted Ricky either way.

Joe Cortez did a fantastic job this fight, he prevented Ricky from being dirty on the inside. Although Ricky and his deluded fanboys keep using the ref as some sort of excuse for the exposure. "Break Ricky" "Break Ricky"

So, if your gonna claim that excuse, then why on the very few occasions Ricky got in the inside, Mayweather wasn't troubled at all?

You see, Mayweather can do it all, inside or outside. So Hatton's pressure didn't worry him, apart from a few digs to the body, Hatton did f*ck all that night. He was humbled by greatness, he went into a shell because he knew he was generations behind Mayweather.

Floyd telegraphed and lined up that check left hook all fight, he planted the seeds earlier in the fight in that very same corner Ricky headbutted later in the fight. You could see the KO coming from a mile away. Ricky looked like a dog chasing its owner for a treat.

Ricky was such a dumb one dimensional donkey in the ring, and only ever thrived up against someone who played his checkers game, this ain't checkers, THIS IS CHESS.

When he faced someone who thought slightly differently to the rest, and had the ability to take a step back in a fight, analyze and change their style, he got utterly exposed and found wanting.

The fight was more competitive in the outside exchanges IMO.
