I have always thought the the image of Kronk fighters could become a brand. I was hoping the Kronk could have become a major promotional outfit with shows around the world and gyms filled with boxers decked out in the famous Kronk colours This would be an appropriate legacy to Manny. Edit - I note the gym is being closed down and therefore Kronk the World Wide Brand should be his lasting legacy I would love to see Wlad decked out in Kronk trunks for his next defence as a one off tribute
The legendary Kronk gym in Detroit has been shut down and the sign took down, in an unpredicted move by Manny Steward's sister, Diane Steward Jones. Workmen were instructed to begin with the removal of the famous gold and red sign that greeted all that walked through it's famous doors. Next went all the famous fight pictures and posters adorning the walls. "There are people in the gym, scavengers, who would try and take everything out of my brother’s gym," she told press. "I’ve alerted the police. People are not going to **** and ravage that place. There will be nothing left. The ring is even being removed." Steward-Jones is considering locking up the gym for ever, which will sadly mean that many aspiring fighters and established professionals will have to seek training elsewhere. "They’ll have to find somewhere else to go for a week, I don’t know. I've still got my ass-kicking boots on. Emanuel was counting on me to protect his stuff from less than honest people and I’m going to do it." Sounds a bit extreme but like you say, it is Detroit. She sounds very bitter.
:deal I somehow doubt that the thing ES lived for, he would want shut down and disassembled the day after he died
right move by the sister there are thugs in that city who manny may have even gave the shirt off his back to just days earlier who would kick them doors right off the hinges and take everything that wasn't bolted down either be a victim or take control she did the latter
If it happened, Manny was in on it. He wasn't a business dummy and there are no doubt lawyers involved with overseeing the aftermath of his death. People need to stop being sentimental about something they know nothing about.
Good thought, but the time for that to happen would have been while Manny was alive, when he could have used his boxing industry connections and considerable personal wealth to bring it about. Right or wrong, a long lasting Kronk legacy and gym was never one of his priorities. I don't foresee anyone being able to make it happen now that he is gone.
