Just rewatched Froch v Bute. . .

Bute has a questionable chin and very poor survival skills. His defense isn't that great either. Lucian is a devastating body puncher, but he is not a great boxer. Carl seemed to understand all of that going into the fight. He hurt Bute in the 2nd round, and Bute never recovered. I should have seen that **** coming a mile away, like Pavlik did, but I didn't.

Have to agree with Maximus about the fan boy stuff. I detested Froch, then respected him, then liked him, and now he is one of my favorites.

I have followed Froch since about fight 15 and I am of the same opinion, he was a hateable character mouthy and would constantly be fighting with his hands down by his knees. But he has proved that with a solid granite chin he can get away with it. He has never ducked anyone and often fights on the road.
I personally think if Froch had a rematch with Ward in the near future Froch would win the rematch, he would of learnt what he did wrong and alter his tactics.
I also blame Froch's management from the early years for his slow rise and promoting of him.

 

That was a hell of a fight. I've always been a big believer in strength of opposition. If one guy has had much better opposition in recent fights, he almost always wins (Tyson-Lewis, Klitschko-Haye, ect.) The first few rounds were very tense. After that, Bute showed tremendous heart and Carl showed the will of a warrior. That was a real good night for the super middleweight division.:good

 

I never disliked Froch, I always found him to be pretty humorous. However, I'm a HUGE fan now. His fights are usually entertaining(unless Dirrell's ruining the party). He's very professional. Consistently takes on tough opponents. Etc. He's awesome.

Yeh, at the moment I can't think of a guy who took a one-sided beating and then came back the next fight and annihilated an undefeated champion. That's pretty impressive.

I thought Earl Brown did a pretty good job as well (aside from causing the confusion on whether it was a KD or TKO). He gave Lucian Bute every chance to survive.

While Bute does deserve more respect than he gets on here, I must say, his defense was phenomenally terrible that night. Froch was displaying Floyd Mayweather Jr. accuracy in there.

 

Can't watch it again, it's too depressing for me...

 

One fighter that I can think of that took a brutal beating and came back is Tommy Morrison. The Duke fought only 4 months after Ray Mercer KTFO of Tommy. In fact he had some of his best wins after Mercer brutalized him.

Froch-Taylor is one of my all time favorite fights. I like Froch, but Ward has his number and would beat him 100 times out of 100, although I would like Ward to fight someplace other than his home town once in a while. Froch travels anywhere and everywhere to fight, like a true champ.

I think the rematch is pointless, I know people say "oh Lucian only lost cos it wasn't at the bell center" or whatever excuse.

You know, Bute is a very good fighter, you don't comfortably handle guys like Sakio Bika and Glen Johnson if you aren't, but it was the manner of the defeat to Froch, he just had nothing, nothing to make Froch think twice, and I don't see any way he's going to improve fighting at the Bell Center.

It's just a styles thing, Froch is a guy that isn't discouraged by Bute's power, will walk through and handle him, I was one of the few pre-fight who picked Froch and I based it on little things i'd seen of Bute, such as him getting disorganized under pressure.

It was like Garcia vs Khan, only worse because it was never competetive, and Froch didn't even go mental like Garcia was, he took his time, and still took Bute out very early.

People will scoff at this, but if I was Bute i'd fight Andre Ward, styles make fights, and maybe Ward has got a glass body, you never know.
