And the best version of Stander.

Subsequent efforts sure didn't see him in that kind of condition. The version that fought Frazier has the chance to give Norton some big problems. But that guy didn't show up and Ronnie was pretty much collecting paychecks after that Frazier beating. It would have been interesting to have seen him latch on to a better trainer & dedicated himself better and fought some different guys in that 74-78 timeframe and I think he could certainly have done better.

Ron Stander did nothing to deserve title sht, they wanted easy fights for Frazier till another Ali bout came along. Foreman derailed that plan. Stander was tough, but spent more time in bars than in gym.

Yeah, but how good was Stander ? If Muhammad Ali had fought him,he'd have got criticised, big time !!

Yes,Joe looked pretty awesome, but so would most against that calibre of boxer.

Joe might have looked mean, but he didn't look that great against Stander IMO. He looked just as bad in the Terry Daniels fight.

If anything,Daniels was even worse than Stander. Nobody seems to get on Joe's back very often about taking these 'fights' but Muhammad Ali got plenty of stick when he defended against those of a similar calibre. This is n't a knock on Frazier by the way. I admired Joe a lot.

AS i recall Ron had a Nano-second of Glory as he caused Joe a brief Stumble in the first round, and he did try, one could see how he had earned his "Bluffs Butcher" Local Barfight Nickname , it appears Ron's wife (Ex Wife ?) was not one to be swayed by sentiment as her Voltswagen and Indianapolis 500 remark Indicates, Ron did own a Stoppage over a young Earnie Shavers so he did contribute some Ink in a small way to the colourful and fierce 70's heavyweight scene.
