Within the last 16 hours Live Fight and Bad Left Hook reported that both fighters want the fight, and both sides have PROPOSED VENUES. I'd bet my house that all the crap about Ward going another direction was, and is, part of a Goossen effort to force KP to fight in Oakland. Ward, Goosen, Arum, Dunkin, Garcia, and Pavlik, were all on the same page. According to Goosen, just a few days ago, the fight was "95% done." Goossen said he'd get it done this week. All they had to do was locate and negotiate a venue, and then **** went sideways. A couple days ago, Goossen revealed that they entered into negotiations with some guy nobody ever heard of (the name escapes me at the moment.) In addition, the WBA convention just ended. Surprise-Surprise! Ward has six months to face the winner of Kessler/Magee. http://www.boxingasylum.com/showthread.php?t=47571 http://www.fightnews.com/Boxing/wba-convention-day-three-147324
I didn't mind the fight a bit, and was a little interested, but I know most of us seemed to be down on it. Either way, Kessler, Pavlik, I'm happy to see them all fighting.
i never new it was on. I don't like this fight. Mainly cos i'm a big pavlik fan and just seeing him taking a beating here. Pavlik can beat alot of good fighters, and win a belt again. But not against Ward. Pavlik vs Kessler or Froch is a better match up
Sucks for Pavlik, That was the type of fight Kelly could get up for. Ward will get a significant drop in the paycheck Vs. either Kessler or Magee. Blows for both fighters. Wait so Kessler is going back to 168lbs?? (I ASSume)
The way negotiations played out so far, I assume there is a dispute over venue. Team Pavlik stated their position on fighting in Oakland as soon as negotiations started. They won't do it. Pavlik likes Vegas. He's had 3 or 4 good outings there. Ward has never fought in Vegas, but said Vegas is one of his goals. I really thought the fight would end up there. It seems odd that as soon as they started to get serious about picking a venue, all of a sudden impediments popped up.
I think they announce that they are negotiating these fights and then peruse the boxing forums (like ESB) as a kind of focus group to see what interest in the fight will look like. Almost everyone here shat all over this fight and I bet that has something to do with the fact that they called it off. This is speculation of course.
Internet forums represent less than 1% of boxing fans worldwide. HBO would not even buy a fight like WArd/some-guy-from-Montenegro. Furthermore, it has not been called off. It just stalled, and it stalled over VENUE!
On boxrec it says HBO in late January vs TBA I dont mind Kelly Pavlik cause he can punch and take a punch and will test Ward in several ways, prob cant win but could be fun
