Who wins this? A prime Foreman of the Frazier or Norton fights against a prime Liston (whenever that was ... Patterson fights I guess?) Both were sparring partners so they know each others styles ... Foreman was young at the time so he should have more of an advantage in that regard since Liston never really sparred the finished product.
Arguably the two most physically imposing and intimidating of heavyweights. I go for George. It would come down to sheer physical power,of which Foreman had the edge on - Just.
Liston has the longer reach and is a much more skilled boxer And I doubt he hits harder than Liston ... who BTW has a good chin and far better stamina than Foreman Chuck Wepner who fought both said that Liston hit him the hardest
Ron Lyle nearly stopped Foreman in their bout. Sonny Liston had everything Lyle had and more. Liston was a better finisher than Lyle, also.
Aside from the Ali bout, George doesn't get stopped. Lyle caught George right on the money. Rusty George. Still couldn't stop him. What about every other Foreman bout?
Hard to say neither man in there primes faced a puncher like the other and both men could be hit...does it boil down to chin or heart...I lean with Foreman with a KO before 5 but never can tell
The Lyle scrap was post-Zaire George after his brain was fried. Pre-Ali Foreman-Lyle would be a 2nd round blowout for George IMO. That being said, it would have been an interesting scrap with Sonny. As much as I love Ali and think him the greatest HW of all time, his 2nd career was, to some degree, smoke and mirrors. He had everything going for him in Zaire, they should have fought in Houston but of course Muhammad controlled all the cards. Sonny would have hurt Foreman early IMO. But George may have teed off as well (again, pre-Ali) Many fail to realize that the post-Ali George was nothing like the pre-Ali George. And Ali never saw fit to have a rematch with Foreman who IMO wouldn't have been such a moron with his fight plan nor had to deal deal with the Africa hype....
I remember watching an interview where Foreman said nobody made him take a step back, not even fraizer, the only one who made him move back was Liston. I cant remember where I saw this, if i find it again, i would be sure to post it. I think Sonny would win, he had the stamina, skill, long reach,
alright, you got me in the other thread, but not this one. I think Sonny beats the **** out of Foreman.
