That would be pure speculation on my part but if Dawson really only got $600K that is well short of some of Pavlik's purses which have been as high as $3mill.

True, but AFAIK HBO is paying less today compared to earlier, and those purses in excess of 3M was at thepinnacle of his career. I agree that the 600K Dawson got seems like a raw deal.

Pavlik has pretty much listened to Top Rank during his 'second chance' with them. It sounds like everything is filtering through Garcia also. I'm not sure how much input Kelly really has and if he would refuse an offer that Top Rank told him to take. Still, all speculation. Even if we heard it from Arum, Pavlik, Goosen and Ward it would still be speculation as far as I'm concerned. I don't believe nothing until it is signed now days.

Kessler/Magee is for a 168 pound interim something something...

He only weighed 169 against Green.

To bad if its off, I think the fight would have brought a lot of exsightment if it had of been made.

Kelly is not having to easy of time getting fights I think he might be veiwed as to much of a risk to some of the top fighters.

It may have brought "exsightment" but it certainly wouldn't have brought excitement as it would have been a one-sided cruel beating.

First off, Pavlik can't go to Showtime. He stiffed them on the Cunningham fight and they're probably still mad over that baby ass **** he pulled. Secondly, HBO is tighter with the purse strings than they were a few years ago. Finally, Pavlik's career is in a tailspin in terms of relevance, rehab stints and inactivity against top tier talent kills his earning potential. The only major fight I can see him landing that would have a title attached to it would be if the WBC stripped Ward and had Pavlik and Chavez fight for it.

Ward was on ***** street for a long time and it was like he was totally polaxed by a single punch. This punch you might think was some huge power shot, but it was not. I have watched it many times and it was a very ordinary uppercutt. Believe me Ward can be hurt and Pavlik can dish it out.

    Random comments:

<> Apparently several posters have no clue how much money Pavlik generates. He still has a solid fan base, and in Oxnard he's like the honorary mayor or some ****. The Mexicans love him. His fan base is broader now than ever.

<> It seems to me that a frightening number of posters are so busy licking Andre's nuts that they haven't noticed how fragile his chin is. We're not talking about Darnell Boone or Carl Froch. We're talking about The Ghost. If he hurts Ward as bad as Boone or Froch did, the fight is OVER.

<> I wonder how long it will be before even one poster admits that Andre's stamina is suspect.

<> I said this fight is probably off, but that was speculation. That's why I said "probably." I seriously doubt if money is a sticking point. Goossen has been through negotiations with Top Rank enough times to know he can't **** a TR fighter. I suspect that venue is the problem. The reason that irritates me is that Team Pavlik made it clear, on day one, that fighting in Oakland is not an option.

<> Where venues are concerned, there are certain things I would not allow a fighter to do if I was a manager or promoter: Fight a popular Canadian in Quebec City; fight a popular German in Germany, or, fight Andre Ward in Oakland.

Logical post. I only disagree with the last part. There's no way in hell Kelly's fighting somebody like Ward for half of what Dawson made. Pavlik isn't the champ anymore but people still want to see him fight and he knows it.

Very good insight. Seems like an absurd speculative post at first glace, but it really isnt. You clearly have a deep knowledge of boxing politics, promotional ties, and family connections. :good
