I think people forget this, you aren't the best because you have been in the most fan friendly fights, it's because you dish it out without being damaged.... Boxing is an art form it's not to entertain the crowd.... So look at the numbers and decide who has done it best, People think there guy is the best but stats don't lie... I'd hate to say FMJ is the goat since I have seen alot of great fighters in my time, but I can set my personal feelings for a fighter aside and it's what you can back up with evidence..(Your Connect % vs Your Oppenents)... So statistacally speaking you really can argue with Floyd Fanatics when the claim G.O.A.T but look at the numbers... #hitdon'tgethit
People say if you were never tested of in a fight of the year you cant be the best,i thought that not getting hit did make you the best..but this is coming from people who cant fight, never been in a fight, and would most likely cry if they did get punched i the face.taking punishment is stupid
Then just admit that you carefully select your style and your opponents to build up your stats and accept that the public has the right to criticize you. The problem with Floyd and his fanatics is that they want to have it both ways. He's never in the right fight at the right time, but wants the love a true warrior gets.
but to be fair there was no compubox back in the day so unless you want to watch alot of old fights and count the punches yourself we will never know
No, boxing is about hitting the opponent more times than he hits you and harder, until the opponent gets KTFO Defense, holding, running, smothering...that's for pussies Ring wars is where it's at Floyd king of *****-boxing
There are several ways to win a boxing match; you can win by hitting without getting hit or you can win by slugging it out and knocking your opponent out. There are many ATGs who did the latter.
As long as you are dishing it out it's all good but there really is more emphasis on the hitting part in my book. For an example I don't consider Wlad Klitschko the greatest heavyweight since he hasn't been hit with a solid punch in years and seems to take forever to unleash the right hand against these same guys that can't hit him. Leo Santa Cruz dishes out tons of punishment while still protecting himself, that is serious skill as long as we are not comparing resumes. We can argue different points all day long but I hope most of you atleast get the point I am trying to make.
Hit without getting hit is fine, but there's also if you want to be the best, you have to beat the best. Real GOAT contenders like SRR, Ali, Pernell, SRL, did. Floyd hasn't, and all the Compubox stats on his defense are meaningless unless it's proven against the best if there is to be a case for his GOAT status.
I don't understand why people misunderstand the objective to be "hit and not get hit" The objective IS TO WIN. END OF When it comes to executing this, "hit and not get hit" is ONE, count it- ONE of the more popular methods
Boxing is a an art form but it's also a sport, and like every other sport it's part of the entertainment business. At the end of the day you can, and probably should, adopt any method you like that ensures success whilst minimising harm to yourself. That's only prudent. However, you also have to factor in that the crowd knows what it likes and will reward you accordingly, which may or may not impact on your popularity and future earnings. A safety first fighter who picks and chooses his opponents too carefully (I'm not talking about PBF here, but moreso fighters at a lower level) is going to have to possess other qualities if he wants to make it big in the business. Skills pay bills, but then so do ring wars, devastating knockouts and massive pre-fight hype. It's all about finding what you're good at, and playing to those strengths. No one's owed anything in this industry.
I don't understand what Floyd does differently than any other fighter. Every fighter is selective of their opposition. But when you look at the people Floyd fights, he's always fighting people in PFP list / Ranked in their Division / coming off career wins. His nemesis, who you can't post enough about, Pacquiao does the exact opposite. He rarely fights PFP fighters (Clottey, Hatton) and usually fights people long over-the-hill or coming off career losses (Marg/Cotto). And when he does fight legitimate fights he doesn't look good at all. *Looked good versus Bradley but Bradley had a torn ligament. JMM always makes him look bad, even at 39. Pac's a hypejob. You're a fan-boy so I had to address it. Floyd does an equal amount of ducking as other fighters and I'd argue less than most. He's an excellent fighter and definitely the best of our era. His place among the ATG is uncertain though
Floyd's a great fighter but he sure as **** isn't GOAT. Among ATG sure, but nowhere close to GOAT. If he wanted to be in GOAT category, he'd have to fight Canelo/Martinez/Ward (Yes Ward) and win impressively. Then he could be considered among GOAT. I don't think beating an over-the-hill/massively overhyped Pac makes much of a difference for those who understand boxing. The "dream fight" was never more than a fantasy for religious minorities/way for people to discretely demonstrate their racism.
