Hit and dont get hit and make em pay has always been the style i appreciate the most, but i can certainly appreciate other styles that make the sport fascinating and enjoyable to watch where qualities like heart and guts are fore front. |will be seeing how Frankie Gavin does this evening , has had two good fights getting back to being sharper on his defence which is hitting you and then gone and then hitting you again, he appears hard to catch when at his best.
I personally like to watch a technical fight, personal preference, It just is impressive to watch...That's what makes this sport so great, so many styles to match everyone's preferences... I appreciate anybody that steps through those ropes but I don't need to see 2 guys beat each other's head in, that to me is one dimension of the sport, some people love a good brawl, even I enjoy it sometimes but counter punches, and defense etc. are true art forms... We've seen what happens to brawlers in this sport, eventually you will pay for your lack of Defense...And btw if you use abbreviations and this ESB/Forum lingo I have no idea what your talking about so I can't even respond...
For some fighters their punch resistance is a natural part of their defense. Just off the top of my head there are three I can name who everyone is familiar with. George Chuvalo stayed in the top ten for 17 consecutive years during one of the most competitive eras in heavyweight history. His ability to maul and brawl without taking a backward step was a HUGE part of his game. Watch Pavlik tuck his chin, roll his head side to side, and let the punches bounce off. Froch will probably go down in history as one of Great Britian's best fighters. He's a 3 time world champion, but Carl sure as hell ain't no defensive genius. On the other hand: The late Denny Moyer was BHop before Bhop was Bhop! He was also the first undisputed champ at 154. Watch his earlier fights with Robinson at 160. Pure, unapologetic brawling between two guys who usually displayed outstanding defense. The object of a boxing match is to WIN. The best fighters do what they need to do, even when that means taking a beating along the way.
Exactly. The 'hit don't get hit' thing is one of the most oversimplified concepts in boxing. The objective of boxing is not to 'hit and don't get hit', the objective is to win. It is pretty much impossible to land all the shots you want and take literally zero in return, and in many cases the fighter may be content to allow a small percentage of shots through because it actually increases their chance of winning. 'Hit and not get hit' is a strategy that all fighters should employ to a certain extent, it is a means to an end, not the end itself. The true objective is simply to win, and that means that the 'hit and don't get hit' can take a back seat under certain circumstances. Fighters with great punch resistance, or power, but less than average defence/reactions will find it detrimental to their actual victory chances by assuming that the goal is 'hit and not get hit'. I never get tired of watching defensive master ply their trade, but their best game plan doesn't suit everyone.
The objective of boxing isn't hit don't get hit, it's stop your opponent without getting stopped yourself. It's a simulation of combat and a sign of primal physical dominance. People don't like Floyd because it's just a point scoring game to him like counting coup. He doesn't have any offense to his game. He doesn't hurt his opponents or knock them out. He's missing a range of qualities people look for in fighters such as aggression, fortitude, heart, and courage. He's incomplete and so his fights are incomplete.
:rofl:rofl:rofl:rofl I'm a Pac fanboy? You are either a noob who doesn't know me or a ***** and an alt. Either way, **** off. :hi:
That statement is like saying, in bb, the 'objective is to shoot and not miss'. It's a STUPID comment that's been around boxing for years and I, from time to time, have to come here and SCHOOL people. You can't say "the objective" is something that is IMPOSSIBLE. Every fighter I have ever KNOWN or HEARD of, EXPECTS to get hit, KNOWS they're gonna' get hit, that's why they wear headgear in training. No fighter EVER says, 'if I do EVERYTHING perfectly, I won't get hit'. That's fkn' REDICULOUS. To 'NOT' get hit is the FANTASY of boxing, NOT the "objective". When I tell people what's up, they always say, "well of COURSE, everybody gets hit, man". EXACTLY so wtfk are we talking about NOT getting hit? If That's NOT what you mean, DON'T FKN SAY it and DON"T let me have to explain this AGAIN! One MORE thing, STOP with this 'styles make fights' ****, any FOOL knows THAT. People make that comment like it's so PROFOUND.
This is true, and that is how you win; however, if ratings begin to dwindle, don't be surprised if they go to smaller rings, and a no tollerance policy on holding. This won't affect Mayweather very much, but guys like Abril will get hammered.
Was about to say this in my post above yours but didn't feel it was worth the time to explain. good job:yep
Yes very true... The number one objective was from the very beginning to hit and hurt your opponent... Puerile forget that part evey day.... This was a gladiator sport that has evolved into a safety first approach... Defense is a great secondary part of the sport, but without the hurt the sport is lost...
Warriors like Rios, Pacquiao and Morales loves to Fight and get hit ***** like Floyd doesnt like to get hit, cherrypicks his opponents, Remember HEALTH COME'S FIRST!
By hit don't get hit I mean landing at a higher% while making ur opponent land at a lesser %, let's say you land 40% of your power punches and your opponent lands 20% of his... Chances are if you can execute this you are winning the fight, minus the great equalizer of course, a KO... am I missing something?.. Of course the main objective is winning, obviously, my point is people are caught up on what they like their fighter to do and what wins fights... Effective aggression means exactly what it says, EFFECTIVE, a wild banger that misses all night is not going to win a fight if he's getting tagged all night, wait correction, should not win.. And yes, no one can land 100% while the opponent lands zero but getting as close as you can will be a great game plan
