Gavin will never win a world title (especially at 147)

I didn’t know anything about Frankie Gavin until he turned professional.

Many poster I respect on ESB have sung his praises for years, but I’ve never really been that impressed with him. A glittering armature career doesn’t always guarantee success as a pro.

I don’t know what his best weight is, and although im no expert. Surly with a body frame like his he would be better suited down at 135/140?

I just cant see how he can ever win a world title at 147. At domestic level there’s Purdy, Vassall, Matt Hatton (Not to mention Brook) And I wouldn’t bank on him beating all those. I doubt even VVarren could engingeer him a title shot in such a staked division.

I just don’t know where he goes from here. Witter was a good fight for him, but it was probably 3 years too late. Gavin should have stopped him, and his lack of pop is a worry.

Im not shitting on him (i know hes had personal problems so i wish him all the best), ’ve got nothing against him. I just cant see him getting anywhere near world level at this moment in time.

i think its very much up in the air for frankie could go either way for him at the mo.

hes beaten a faded witter good win for a 14th fight but now he needs to keep the tests coming

Be interesting to see him in against Matthew Hatton next, Vassell and Purdy will not get made cos of Matchroom, Carson Jones appears to be doing a UK tour but I imagine Matchroom have options.

tbh i didnt think he was given much hype as a pro until after his first few performances where he did look really good. for whatever reason he's probably now lagging behind the other active olympians.

i thought he did well last night considering his opponents style, and think he'd put on a clinic against a come-forward fighter like Heffron.

i wouldnt rule out an ABC title as we've seen inferior fighters manouvered into such a position in the past

Hatton/Gavin or Gavin/Purdy would be awesome.

    I agree, it's a funny old game.

Somebody like Amir Khan is supposedly useless, meanwhile Frankie Gavin has been getting praise from day one! For what..?

He's nowhere near the level of Amir Khan.

People in general like to pine over fighters who are nice polite guys will average ability. Frankie Gavin looks like a solid domestic, and in the future a european level fighter maybe..?

Its like the way women pine over average looking male celebrities.

Considering you felt Malignaggi would beat Khan in a rematch, Macho, it's hard to take your opinion too seriously.

Well he's a British Champion now, he'll be fighting meaningful fights only at least from here on

I really like Gavin vs Hatton M, Matthew is somewhat of my guilty pleasure and i think he'd test if not beat Gavin, i just like the fight TBH

Tough assignment last night, Witter is a horrible fight for anyone..

He did okay, nothing special but he won and progresses on but he will need to show more now as a champion. Maybe it will help him kick onto bigger things?. I hope so but likes of Carson Jones i think would beat him at this point.

Needs a few domestic defences, get active as he said he wanted and then we maybe will see the real Frankie Gavin. As of yet he's not set the world on fire with his displays.

Heffron would be a wonderful showcase for him, he'd look the man in that fight but he'd not long a great deal. Last night he dealt with Witter's pick pocket tactics well enough..

Win makes a good call on M Hatton and also Purdy is Lee loses to Jones. Both would be nice live tests for him. Purdy being the tougher test! Or if Vassell fancies a fight get that on..

I do love Paulie I must say.

Perhaps I am a bit bias towards Malignaggi. Heart over head and all that.

needs to get active but after the recent Olympics I wondered if maybe Gavin would have been more suited to going into the AIBA semi pro programme.

Gavin needs to drop down a weight division and start fighting more often, his progress is pretty poor especially for someone with so much talent and potential.

i'v never rated him as a world class prospect, but i hope he makes a decent ammount fighting guys like matt hatton, denton vasell, lee purdy, lynes and heffron, they are winnable fights for him anything above this level i could see him struggling big time.

He's only made 140 once in his pro career.

There's nothing to suggest he can actually make it, is there?

He's 5'10'', reasonably well built too.

It's not as if he's a little runt with short arms and three spare tyres.
