He was sublime on the inside at slipping, rolling & countering but overall I`d rank someone like Duran a level above him, he was a natural fighter that could do it all, Toney is nowhere near as complete.

Pernell Whitaker. The most technically sound and great reflexes and chin to boot.

Isn't Duran the most skilled of the fab 4?
Even after moving up a lot, his skills kept him at the top.

Raw talent does not equal technique. That takes YEARS to perfect.

Roy Jones had the most raw talent. Then Whitaker.

Beat me to it. I was going to edit my post and say that. Raw talent would mean either somebody talented beyond their actual experience. A natural.. OR somebody whose physical attributes made up for their lack of technique... right?

Ali, a better boxer than Jones? Absolutely not. Jones was better technically than Ali and could do more. Jones could switch stances effectively. Jones went to the body effectively. Jones wasn't so dependent on a jab, though he had a great jab when he chose to use it. If it wasn't for Ali's iron chin, he would have been knocked out more times than Jones. That's not a technical skill on Ali's part.

i'll go with roy jones and robinson from those i've seen on film. like the argument around talent/technique showed, it depends on your definition i guess

i can dig it. still maintain if he had moved up from welter to 154 instead of fighting honeyghan, then made the jump to middle he had the skills to take hagler (maybe...)

Which is why I'd of always picked Hopkins to beat him.

Wild card shout for Ruben Olivares.

The guy was one of the hardest hitters ever pound for pound, had hand and foot speed to burn (often forgotten), a very rugged chin, and exceptional natural fighting instincts. He was very much at home in the ring, something that can't be taught.

Another wild card is Luis Manuel Rodriguez, who like Olivares was a natural and an all time great despite his preoccupation with women and partying.

    Raw talent?

    'Nipper' Pat Daly

    - Turned pro at 9
    - World Ranked at 16 (top-10 Bantamweight, The Ring: September 1929)
    - Year for year, he could've possessed the greatest jab of all-time; was said to be fired out of a cannon.
    - 99 wins to just 11 losses

He was so talented, he did everything young. (Retired at 17.)

Can anyone really embody talent, any better?

    Talent: Natural aptitude or skill.
