Go back a page or two. I did a pretty lengthy post on why I think Iron Mike is over rated. Tell me what you think, if you feel like it. Some of it is a bit "trollish", I believe. Ignore that stuff :good
Ok Butcher. Whatever you say. 206 lb heavyweight who lost to other cruiser weight type guys in his day would survive against todays recent monsters. Check out Henry Coopers hook. What if that was Lewis? Wladimir? Ali never would have existed, because Cassius would've been ****ing DEAD.:deal
I agree that he didn't have any great wins but many ATG heavyweights have worse resumes than Tyson such as Holmes, Dempsey and Marciano. All three of them either fought bums,Old fighters,Or people far smaller than themselves. The reason why people rate them so high is because of how they fought not who they fought and thats the reason why Tyson is at least top 50.
I tend to agree historically about Tyson. A lot of fans thing that he is something like a HW GOAT. He was a very good fighter that got KOed by the first HW HOF around his prime that he fought. Recently I would point out Rigo. He is a good fighter and has a great amateur record. But his fame and reputation is build on Donaire ducking him more than anything else. He is fighting sub par opposition and getting rocked badly in the process once and a while. He is in the elite club of fighters that have been hurt by jab.
He was an exciting fighter but he's overrated, he gets a pass for his losses. eg. he wasn't in his 'prime' even at the age of 22 etc if it was any other boxer they'd get shat on, And then he was past 'Prime' as soon as he lost how convenient...
