Has there been a more epic unification fight since? Live on HBO, 50,000 fans in the Millennium Stadium. Undefeated Champion vs Undefeated Champion. Both fighters giving everything.

At 36, Joe Calzaghe silenced his doubters for good by defeating the 28-year-old Dane. After an even first six rounds Calzaghe changed gears and took apart Kessler. The unanimous decision victory made Calzaghe the first super-middleweight to capture all the belts.

An awesome night. Wild celebrations at 3am in the morning.

Share your memories of this great boxing event.

loved this fight, i remembered liking both fighters and not being sure which i wanted to prevail, it was even and then Joe just reached another level and Kessler couldnt adapt

i couldnt believe Kessler just couldnt keep up in the fight and i was hoping it would stay competitive but it just turned into a domination

It is a truly underrated fight. Much better than any contest in the super-six. It wasn't an all-out, bloody war. But it was a tense and technically superb fight. Calzaghe's adjustment was terrific.

Hopefully this fight will be talked about for years to come.

I gotta tell you I was a bit underwhelmed when I saw it. Expected more from such a highly touted matchup. The fight was quite sterile and lacked highlights. Yes it was an important unification fight but it didn't deliver any drama or cliffhanging moments.

It was the same old round by round. I never bothered to watch the fight a second time around.

It was nice to see Calzaghe turn up his gear and adapt in the fight, it gives testimony of how good Calzaghe was, but it wasnt much of a great fight and I have always thought of Kessler as not a GREAT fighter, even though he is loved here on ESB

It was a cracking fight, both guys gave it their all. In the end, we saw the difference between a very good fighter (Kessler) and a great fighter (Calzaghe). Once Joe moved through the gears Mikkel couldn't keep up, loved the 12th round, Joe had the fight won but stood in there for a tear up to give the fans their moneys worth. It's amongst the most significant fights in the SMW division, along with Toney-Jones, Leonard-Hearns 2, Eubank-Benn 2, Calzaghe-Lacy, Ward-Froch

I enjoyed the fight very much..

It was after this fight, much of my doubts about Calzaghe's ability were silenced.. He went from a very good fighter to a great fighter for me.

Good post mate :good Kessler is unfortunate to have faced two special fighters in Calzaghe and Ward! Without these two, he could have reigned over the division for the last 6 years!

    For sure..

Gotta give props to Kessler.. Fought the 2 greatest SMWs of all time.. Lots of talent in that division. He really held his own with Calzaghe too in the first half of the fight. Impressing as well what Calzaghe was able to do at his age.. I am interested to see how good Ward is as time goes on.. Not too many can still be elite at 36.

You cannot realistically tell me Calzaghe/Kessler was better than Froch/Kessler in the SS.

**** man, 5 years ago. We went round my mates uncles house for a bonfire then to my mates to watch it. Got steaming and had Vegas for Hatton Mayweather. Good times for British boxing. Everyone was buzzing about boxing.

Was Cotto Mosley the same night?

    Brilliant fight, loved it.

This was the fight were Calzaghe was finally going to be exposed be a real good fighter according to dumbass Americans.... Calzaghe showed his adaptability & class in this one & settled the question of who was the best SMW in the world.
