He also got small cuban and american flags on his trunks. It's an unusual move but he's trying to appeal to mexican american fans since they vastly outnumber cuban american fans and follow boxing more closely.

I guess nobody sees the Cuban flag above the American flag. It's to gain the Mexican crowd. He is confident that he will be facing a Mexican next.

Pro boxing is still a spectacle. You play to the crowd. Nothing wrong with that. In fact, it is the smart thing to do. You have to separate people from their money. Elementary stuff here. Way too much being read into this.

Perez did that because he resides in Ireland and he's showing his gratitude to the Irish public for taking him in and allowing him to ply his trade.

Lara is Cuban and he resides in the U.S., yet he's going to have the Mexican flag taking up 90% of the space, with a tiny Cuban flag and tiny U.S. flag. Very different...

I don't really care either way, but it's obviously just pragmatic marketing. He lives in Miami... I don't really understand what his link is to Mexico besides the fact that he fled Cuba via Mexico.

More Cuban Boxers should catch on.

    No language barrier.
    Rabid fight fans
Unique styles as compared to most Mexican fighters
    Potential to become "anti-heroes"

Damn this is genius. If he can just create a hated alter ego in Mexico? Wow. Great fights all day.

There is no link, that's my point. I would completely understand it if he was fighting on a Mexican holiday weekend or something but this move just baffles me. I'll just drop it since I'm clearly in the minority here...

That's why its funny that he decided to wear this on his biggest fight to date not even in a big Mexican event or date, and he will be rocking not just trunks or a small Mexican flag but the whole works in thrunks sombrero and gloves with just a tiny flag of Cuba on him its hilarious... Might as well naturalize if Ur gonna do it so big lol

Don't really think this will get him much exposure, I mean if he was living and training in Mexico with a mexican trainer, then maybe you'd see mexicans backing him up... He just needs to fight big names and win convincingly. Look at Pac, filipinos cream their pants with just a glimpse of his mustache. If Lara starts winning big, cubans will forget their boring ass baseball and you'll see a bunch of Lara-tards or whatever you wanna call them in here.
