Why Do brits Seem To Dislike Andre Ward?

He does not challenge the "notion of Calzaghe being a great 168 pounder" because Calzaghe's resume is far from weak itself, and Calzaghe was the Undisputed Super Middleweight King when he was active, and beat several former World Champions - some of whom were fresh off of being robbed by Ottke - and reigning champions - like the much touted Lacy and the still well rated today Kessler.

Though I hate comparing them, nobody Ward has beaten is better than half the guy's Calzaghe beat. Froch isn't better than the faded Eubank, Kessler wasn't better against Ward than he was against Calzaghe, Bika wasn't better against Ward than he was against Calzaghe, Abraham's not better than Reid, Green's not better than Lacy, etc, etc.

Ward has a strong resume, it's everything it could be in the division bar perhaps Dirrell and Bute, but it has not surpassed Calzaghe's resume at Super Middleweight yet. Given a few years if he doesn't move up then it might do, but right now is hasn't.

And even if it did it would not change the fact that Calzaghe is a Super Middleweight great. Park, Jones, Toney, Benn, Eubank, etc, didn't become second-rate Super Middleweight because of the achievements of the next generation so why the hell would that happen to Calzaghe?!

 

Im not talking about Calzaghe am I? Who did Woodhall win the belt from? Its a one big circle of mediocre fighters. Thats not bashing. Its reality.

 

I respect his ability, and appreciate his affable personality, but I don't find him too thrilling to watch, and the 'S.O.G.' stuff is a bit lame. As a Brit though, there can only be one Ward, and that's Jed.

 

Ward > Froch > Calzaghe

Ward is very highly regarded by the Brits IMO

Even although his style is not what you would call exciting, his technique, ability to adapt, generalship and Boxing IQ are attributes which get recognition.

He'd get even more recognition if he fought another Champion on foreign soil.

 

Because a large percentage of the Brits who post here are obnoxious trolls.

 

I know he called his Dad God, but to the casuals calling yourself S.O.G makes you sound like a ***** if you dont know the story.

He is pretty boring to watch and prattles on about nothing when he talks IMHO.

But if thats what you like then who am I to tell you otherwise.

I also never have rated Calzaghe if that makes any odds....Pampered record hand picked most of his fights by his Dad, and only fought RJJ an Bhop when he knew he had a better than average chance against the pair.....And he still got put on his arse by both early doors. Joe's best win is vs Kessler, and Kessler wasnt at his best at that stage IMO.

Also not a huge Froch fan, although I do respect him.

Real British boxing fans don't dislike Ward, it's just 3 trolls who pretend to support Calzaghe. Kessler is Calzaghe's biggest victory by far, Ward beat him after only 20 professional fights(Kessler was his 4th 12 rounder opponent). That's all you need to know.

 

It's not ward himself we "dislike", he's a genuine nice guy and is very talented
