On reflection should Pavlik have agreed to fight Bute?

Looking back now I would take Pavlik over Bute he just can't handle pressure. Think back though to when Pavlik turned Bute down.......he must be kicking himself right now....

 

Bute pre Froch loss would take Pavlik! No one knew the recipe for Bute really back then.

I still have Bute beating Pavlik if they were to fight in a month per say.

 

I always liked that fight for Pavlik and thought he should have jumped at the chance to face Bute. He's probably really kicking himself for not taking the fight, Ward is probably doing the same as well. Bute's stock may be in decline, and rightfully so, I still wouldn't quite write him off quite yet but you really get the sense that Bute's best moments are behind him.

 

Yup. Instead it's Froch who is reaping the spoils as the victor rather than waiting for leftovers like Ward and Pavlik did :verysad

 

Anybody who picks Bute is crazy. He just cant defend himself from a straight right hand. Pavlik gives him a proper doing in.

 

That Pavlik was a shell of the one who won the title. He was on his way back to rehab and definitely not in prime fighting condition.

Yes, stylistically Pavlik brings the pressure and has the power to beat Bute. But at that point in time, who knows if Kelly could have executed that game plan?

 

I think Pavlik just did not like the deal he was getting. He had to fight for 50 thousand first and if he fought Bute he was only going to get about 1 million dollars. Thats to fight him in Montreal where he would have to put him in a body bag to win.

Jack Loew and his son were getting a good % of what Pavlik could generate and he was sour with those two trying to make money off him and he thought they were not looking out for his best interest.

In his last interview Pavlik said he is going to open up a gym across from Jack Loews and put him out of business. So you know he is sour with Loew and that is probably a big reason why he pulled out of the fight, to screw over Loew.

 

yeah, more winnable fight for him. ward is a tough fight for him.

 

I don't know the backstory between him and Loew but whatever happened it's a shame.

I know the money was low but after the Hopkins loss and subsequent pull outs Pavlik must have known he needed to make a statement. True this was a big risk but risks reap rewards if a boxer is willing to learn from them and come back stronger.

I think alot of boxers could learn from Froch. For him I don't think the money is as much an issue as the glory.

I think Pavlik could have KO'd Bute - even in Montreal.

 

According to Pavlik in his last interview he was very upset with Loew at that point in time and he still is. Loew was making 15% off of Pavlik and was basicly just talking on the phone with his girlfriend and telling Pavlik to hit the heavybag. And Loew's son was getting paid a lot of money to just stand around and do nothing.

In his last interview he speaks with a lot of enthusiasm about opening a gym across from Loews and putting him out of business. You know they have a lot of bad blood bettween them when you here things like that. Jack Loew in an interveiw said after Pavlik pulled out of the cunningham fight that Pavlik is never welcome back in the gym ever again.

 

Pavlik's persecution complex is troubling. I'd really like to hear that he's back in California and preparing for a fight. Hell, any fight. He needs to stay busy.

 

At that time, or since, Kelly has done nothing to demonstrate the skills needed to beat Bute.

He definitely knows he wasn't ready at the time. Hell, he turned down $1.3+ million after verbally agreeing.

 

It's called the alcoholic blame game.

Pavlik would of lost.


Sincerely, I don't think his ability to physically impose himself will carry to 168, not against the more skilled fighters.
