    I got SRL in the top 15 myself but even then that is awfully close considering the immensely long, rich history of the sport. And I'd bet every single one of those guys have deeper resumes and better longevity. So what gives? The two points I keep mentioning! :rasta

    Bestestness, yeah... No order but something like Kid Gavilan.......... Duran, Robinson, SRL, Jones, Pea, etc.

    It was Benitez whom Leonard defeated to become the WBC welterweight champion. That was on Nov. 30, 1979, barely two years ago. In 22 months Leonard fought Benitez, Roberto Duran twice, Ayub Kalule, Hearns, champions all, a combined 177-1-1 record going in against him. Hearns and Kalule had never been knocked down. Leonard knocked them down. Hearns, the WBA welterweight champion, and Kalule, the WBA junior middleweight champ, were unbeaten. Leonard knocked out Kalule in the ninth round in Houston on June 25, 1981 and stopped Hearns in the 14th round in Las Vegas on Sept. 16, 1981. Did any boxer ever have five fights against such diverse and accomplished opponents in such a short period? Damn few.

    And, in the end, this 22-month test comes down to the 13th round against Hearns. Leonard has to knock him out to win. Angelo Dundee, Leonard's trainer, is leaning into his ear, nearly shouting, but Leonard is looking, as if transfixed, at Hearns. "I heard every word Angelo said, but—watch the tapes—you won't see me respond," Leonard says, "because I already knew myself what I had to do."

    Leonard is without doubt a Great but the very things that define him, e.g. his tactical game, are the things that ultimately place his greatness into question.

    The first Duran/Leonard fight typifies Leonard's weakness. His Hubris is borne out here when he continually believes he can bully the bully. Duran deserves his place in the top-5 ATG list. Not just because of this win but because he was, on his day, the most immaculate Boxer.

    Back in my day, we didn't even have vision! Couldn't afford it! Had to feel around in the dark and work with our heightened sense of smell!

    I was trying to turn people onto the Body Snatcher on the "underrated" thread yesterday.
    One of the finest resumes of the modern era and given Tommy didn't hang around long at 154,Mike for me is the greatest at light-middle.
