Can anyone name any fights that Muhammad Ali was notably cut in, or better yet have any pictures of Ali cut?

The best I can do is the serious eye swelling Bob Foster gave him from repeated stiff jabs.

As far as I'm aware Ali was only ever cut against Bob Foster. There is that picture of him slumped on his stool after the Holmes fight and his eye looks swollen and he looks a battered fighter. It was on the cover of TIME magazine.

Ali on the other hand had very lethal fists, not in terms of power but the damage he could do to opposing fighters. Patterson, Frazier and Liston were fighters who rarely, if ever cut yet Ali cut and swelled them up. He had some sort of snap on his punches that just tore his opponents up.

In one (or two) of his early fights (when he was still called Cassius Clay) he was cut too. I'd need to check my notes to tell which exactly.

Really, thats really interesting. Please do let us know when you find out.

  6. To my knowledge ALi was only cut clean against Foster. And that was because of repeated jabs in one point by his eye which wore the skin down and finally broke it. I doubt ali could be ripped open with one or two punches, i think it would take a consistent level of punishment to one isolated area to finally cut him.

One of Ali's overlooked physical assets was the bone structure of his face. He had no edges that would make him susceptible to cuts (like Vito Antefuermo, Ken Buchanan, Arturo Gatti, et al. and etc.). Ali's features were rounded. For boxing, he had the perfect face.

Can't find it. Maybe I confused him with some other fighter who rarely got cut, I don't remember now.

 I can only imagine what he would do with this one if he heard it live and started riffing on it.

I didn't even hint against its veracity, but I couldn't help imagining Ali with it. It's just so loaded for a verbal Ali frenzy, it's great.
